Ichiro at 1499 Hits

In a bit over 6.5 seasons Ichiro will reach 1,500 hits. His career (in America) BA is 332 Stats.

Impressive but have others reached 1,500 hits in a shorter time frame? I assume some have. Baseball stat fanatics where are you? Need some perspective.

From some Mariners site:

"Ichiro now needs one more hit to become the third-fastest MLB player to reach the 1,500-hit plateau. He has played in 1,058 regular-season games since joining the Mariners prior to the 2001 season. Al Simmons (1,040) and George Sisler (1,048) are the fastest to 1,500 hits."

Ok thanks. That's what I wanted to know. I think it is 1, 059 games and today will be 1,060 games for Ichiro. Hope he does it today.

Just looked at current box score stats in Oakland/Seattle (Mariners 7, A's 5 top of the sixth)game and Ichiro has one hit and one run so he made 1,500 hits today. Good for him. Being third fastest to this number is a settlar accomplishment. Of course that is number of games and not number of at bats. But however it is counted it is still a grand feat.

It's too bad all of he does is hit singles, because he's a remarkable player if you ignore things like value.

Short Article on Ichiro

SEATTLE -- Ichiro Suzuki became the third-fastest player in major league history to reach 1,500 hits when he singled in the second inning Sunday against Oakland's Lenny DiNardo.

Suzuki got his 1,500th hit in his 1,060th game. Only Al Simmons (1,040) and George Sisler (1,048) reached the mark quicker, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Ty Cobb is fourth at 1,070.

"He's a marvelous player and what I enjoy is watching him have fun," Seattle manager John McLaren said.

Suzuki finished 2-for-5 Sunday and now has 1,501 hits in his career. He had 1,278 hits in nine seasons with Orix in Japan's Pacific League.

"Unless I get to 1,500, I can't get 1,501. So in that sense, all numbers are important to me," Suzuki said.

So Ichiro's hit total is 2,779 hits in ~15.5 seasons counting his time with the Orix.

Anyway, I wonder if he will play long enough to get 3,000 hits total for his American Career? Given his recent contract I suppose so. Future HOF?

Boo...

You realize that now that he's playing CF he's one of the leagues most valuable players by most metrics?

Or are you leveling?

It's too bad that most stat heads like baseball so much that they can't enjoy it.

Ichiro's EQA:

01 .296
02 .290
03 .276
04 .305
05 .279
06 .281
07 .298

Plus his plus-defense. Yep, not valuable.

I think considering fastest to reach stats shouldn't be done when the guy was 27 and had already had a successful career before coming to the league.

It's still pretty impressive, but I'm sure he's nowhere near fastest if it was number of games it took to reach 1500 hits starting with the season after the 27th birthday.
