Facebook App: How Profitable?

I see these popping up left, right and center including from a couple of people I know who are always look to make a buck off these things.

I know that to install them, you have to share some personal information from your facebook account; my question is how/how much are people profiting off this?

I can make facebooks apps and I've been trying to think of a good monetizing idea. PM me if you can think of anything.

I'm sure there are money making opportunities with those apps, but the million dollar app at the start of the video lecture is just someone/some business taking advantage of people who think they're participating in something for the sake of charity. Lesson: Trick someone into being charitable and scoop some off the top I guess, morals aside.

Thanks for those videos. Makes perfect sense but I just didn't think about it that way.

I've been thinking more along the lines of building apps and selling them. There are also companies out there paying people to build them apps.

nothing has been mind blowing profitable yet...and with the OpenSocial movement, things should get interesting.
