Flopped Straight in SB
Villain plays a TAG style and is decent, although he does coldcall a bit too often and sometimes does silly things like play K4s in MP. We've played together before and he sees me as a solid TAG.
SB is 2/3, hence the preflop call. 2 limpers, I call 86o in SB, BB checks. Flop: T97r I bet, Villain calls, other limpers fold. Turn: K I bet, villain raises, I 3bet, villain caps. Hero: a) folds, or b) calls, and c/c the river ? |

lol cmon lethe
call and c/c the river |
Re: Flopped Straight in SB
OK, what hands is villain a) not raising preflop, b) peeling the flop with, and then c) capping the turn with that I beat?

Re: Flopped Straight in SB
77. He's slow-playing brilliantly. Seriously, you have to just call him down from here. If you can't call him down, then you should just call his first raise and lead the river.

[/ QUOTE ] So you lead the river and he raises... are you folding now or still showing this down? I know the answer to this question is showdown, but that line just feels bad to me. The only hands I can put villain on after he caps are J8, QJ, 86, and maybe 77 (although I doubt he slowplays a set here). I guess the question is whether or not we are good enough to call getting effectively 2/13 on a turn/river call. |
Re: Flopped Straight in SB
Well, I wouldn't play the hand that way. I'd 3-bet, then call a 4-bet and check/call on the river. This puts 5 total bets in the pot. Just calling the raise and leading the river allows you to put only 4 bets into the pot, which seems like it might be a more reasonable number...the problem with that line is that you miss value when you're winning.
Edit: So yes, I'd bet/call the river. |
Re: Flopped Straight in SB
TBH, the hand didn't exactly go down like this. The true action was:
Turn: K I bet, villain raises, I 3bet, villain calls. River: 2 I bet, villain calls and shows J8. In my head before I 3bet I was thinking that I would fold to a cap, but wasn't sure if that was right or not. The thing is, villain never, ever has 2 pair here. He has a straight basically always, and every now and then has 77. Given that, I'm still not sure if calling the turn and river to a turn cap is correct. |
Re: Flopped Straight in SB
Hmmm, either check/call, or bet/call.

Re: Flopped Straight in SB
I didn't see that he was the BB. In that case, I think I check/call the river.
