Vegas for New Years- three last minute hotel choices
 

[Don't know if this is the right forum, but since other vegas threads seemed to be here, I put it here. Move if appropriate]

For better or for worse, I'm doing New Years in Vegas, and given the time frame and money limitations, I have three choices. Thoughts? All prices are for three nights. Also, keep in mind that we get in on the 31st, and after checking in will be on the strip by early afternoon, and won't return until well into the morning.

(1) Circus Circus, $340.
Pros- On strip; near where friends are staying.
Cons- Never really heard great things.

(2) Comfort Inn, $225.
Pros- Cheap; near strip.
Cons- No casino (minor); not ON strip.

(3) Vegas Club, $215.
Pros- Cheap; heard for the price, really prety decent place to stay.
Cons- Far away from friends/downtown.

Here's something else I'm considering: staying at the cheapest place on New Year's, probably that comfort inn, and then moving to a nicer strip hotel (Ballys or TI, probably) for the other two nights. Has anyone done that? Is it too inconvenient?

New Years is way overhyped for new years. Ive lived here for about 9 yrs and I never go out on new years. Cant drive near strip, no parking, clubs charge double, cant go inside hotels w/o room key.... crowded wall to wall...

I cant think of a worse time to plan a trip out here other than Super Bowl Sunday or Labor/Memorial Day

I've done that lots of times. It's inconvenient, but only for a little while. I'd do the Comfort Inn.

I've done that lots of times. It's inconvenient, but only for a little while. I'd do the Comfort Inn.

It was too good to be true: that rate was the government/military rate. Bally's rate is still good, but it looks like our "cheap" night isn't going to be that cheap.

Did you try Binion's? I am going at that same time and I was able to book by calling them. I think I got it for Dec 24 - Jan 1 for around $500. With a few hours play per day I can get the poker rate for $29 during the week - even good on NYE and $45 on Friday and Saturday.

I was jumping on Palace Station, then found a deal for Stratosphere for $171. I foolishly booked without checking up on the site (TripRes) and apparently they are known for going through the entire booking process for deals that they aren't sure exist. Looks like that's the case, as instead of a confirmation, I got an "itinerary received" e-mail stating that they will let me know when it's been confirmed.

Being cheap isn't worth it.
