How does youtube make money?

Youtube has more members in one year of operation than sites that have been open for 10 years.

How doe they turn a profit?
I haven't noticed any ads?

I forgot the exact number, but I read an article that said you tube was making millions before google bought them. It's through advertising, theres atleast one per page.

It was pretty widely reported that they were losing about $2 million per month.

Of course it was... They didn't want anybody suing them for copywrite infringement.

It doesn't work that way. They were losing money hand over fist. It was common knowledge. They went back the VC market a number of times and were about to have to again before they were bought. And Google took a $200 million reserve for the anticipated losses.
