Fixing Leaks In your Game

I've noticed I have four main leaks in my game. I always go up about half a buy-in and end up losing the whole buy-in. I played on Sunday afternoon and figured out what my biggest problems are. Is there a way to fix these problems by concentrating on certain things?

1) I act too much.

Ex: Oh man, I don't like that board pairing! (when I make a full house)

2) I loosen up after a couple hours.

3) I show my cards too much. What's a +ev way to show your cards?

once you recognise your leaks, you should just stop doing them.

so stop acting so much, keep playing tight and don't show people your cards.

you have taken the 1st step by actually taking time to figure out what is going wrong

Why you would show your cards at all, would be the first question you should ask. In what setting are you showing? a cash game or tourney? How does it help you to give your opponents information on how you play? Online or live play? Are you trying to portray yourself as a tight player or just say hah I got you? Have a purpose for showing and be careful not to abuse it to a point where it makes you predictable.

Also if you loosen up after several hours, its time to get out of the game, more often then not skilled players will already have a good read on you and pick you apart even quicker if you naturally loosen up and aren't playing your a game.

I agree that you have taken the first step by trying to figure out whats wrong, but now you need to take it a step further break it down and learn from it

Depending on the level you are playing at, I am not sure you should ever show your cards.

i dont think you should ever show your cards. there may be some very rare instances where this is of benefit but 99% other times its not.

And as a beginner, you won't know when you should show your cards and when you shouldn't.

I'll tackle this one. You always want appear as though you have what you're representing. So, when you find yourself playing a lot of hands for one reason or another and you suspect that your opponents suspect you of bluffing, I like to show a good hand like AK, if it comes up.

You may want to appear as if you have what you are representing, but sometimes you want to show you are capable of bluffing, too.

But at the beginning levels, I would not suggest showing any cards that someone did not pay for the right to see.

I'll show cards in a live game only to keep the atmosphere friendly and the fish happy. Of course what I show should have already been obvious to good players. I never show bluffs, just can't see the benefit since low stake players will always give you action even if they think you never bluff.
