566 runners, total prize pool of $177k. I was surprised at how top heavy the money was. Only 27 paid, winner got $64,000. Unfortunately I busted around 200th place.

I am the TD at Hollywood Park Casino and this is my first big series there. I missed the fact that we pay a maximum of 27 players in our tournemants. It is a payout structure that was devised when 300+ player tournaments were a rarity. I did not catch this in time for the 1st event in this series but I am trying to get this changed in time for the next 300+ player tournament this weekend. My intention is to pay 9%-10% of the field.

I always thought the payout structure was only loosely determined, and tweaked when the final number of entrants was finalized. Do TDs normally use payout tables devised months/years ago?

Hi Jay,

I didn't realize you posted here. I guess I had better be careful not to say anything negative about you! You know me, I regularly play the Tuesday night $150s.

Those tables at Hollwood Park were extemely uncomfortable. Also the dealers should sign the tracking cards while the other dealer is dealing they should not waste time signing the cards when they sit down unless absolutely necessary. Wasted like 2 minutes with each dealer. Crazy.
