the real solution to US regs

doubt this will get a lot of responses, as it is pretty much an opinion. however, anyone wanting to add reasoning, support, dissent....feel free.

the problem with this whole situation lies in the hands of the poker sites themselves. why cut bait and run like cowards? if the money was worth fighting for, where are they?

the minute US regs pass congress, party runs. cowards. and, as a result, others follow. wussy cowards.

the minute 2 guys get arrested, neteller closes shop. cowards. and several others follow. wussy cowards.

i know that they are bitter competitors, but if they banded together to fight back, instead of just try to find money elsewhere (where they continue to fight each other over a smaller piece of the pie), wouldnt it make more sense to band together, pool resources, and fight for their stake in the biggest cash game in the world...american disposable income? most of us in the US are foolish enough to rack up huge amounts of debt on CCs, never save a dime for tomorrow, and gorge our out-of-shape bodies with more instant gratification than we can handle. how is a US poker player's wallet not worth fighting over?

after all, banding together seems to be working for the oil companies and drug companies. and, to my knowledge, they are still competing against one another, right?

seems to me that its the POKER SITES that are after the instant gratification. and it's the POKER SITES that have their heads in the sand. and it's the POKER SITES who should be focused on the "long term."

not us.

You have a point, but what could they hope to accomplish? The feds would claim that a allaiance of poker sites is no different from a cartel of Columbian drug dealers, and they would be right, in a way.

It takes a brave man to suggest that others risk going to jail so he can continue to enjoy his hobby.

chopper: good post. My hope lies with pokerstars. They are not a publicly traded company and thus don't have to answer to share holders should there be trouble with the U.S. govt. I'm thinking/hope is that pokerstars will come up with a service or a sister company that will process our deposits and withdrawls.

Does anyone know how much of pokerstars business is comprised of U.S. players? I'm thinking around 50% but maybe I'm being a self centered American

i wonder what they speak of...maybe the sister company compatible with all US friendly sites.

and as for the "brave man...jail" post. i would think the companies would take the chance of jail (which is moot if they stay off US soil...duh) just for the shot at some of the US money. again...if the money is big enough to justify the risk.

thats the question i dont know the answer to. just how big is this chunk of rake in the US? i would suspect there are other things going on "behind the scenes." and i still wouldnt be shocked if partypoker were still involved.

The "2 guys" arrested are the co-founders of Neteller. Though they no longer work at Neteller, they are the largest shareholders, and still influence the company.

If you use Party as an example, I think they had 70 - 75% US players and that was after about 18 months of aggressively going into other markets and offering casino, bingo, etc games that are primarily aimed at non-Americans.

My guess would be in the 70% - 80% range for Stars. Full Tilt is probably in the 90% range.

The thing about people who make statements like that is that they usually don't have the skills to make millions in the first place. It's sort of like when people say they'd fight Mike Tyson for $10 million. Nobody wants to watch you fight Mike Tyson. They want to watch another highly trained athlete who has spent the majority of his life training for that moment fight Mike Tyson.

The kinds of guys running companies like Stars who are making millions a year are the same sorts of people who could run companies in the US and make millions a year.
