BBJ Ruling

The local casino down here has a rule that cell phones void the BBJ, therefor they aren't necessarily allowed at the table. It's not really enforced, and most people get away with it as long as they aren't blatant. I've never seen a hand ruled dead from this rule, although usually if someone is on their cell phone the dealer will usually politely ask if they would like to be dealt out.

I receive a phone call from a family member about a family emergency, and then get dealt in a hand. I tell the person on the other line that I'll call back after this hand, and I can't talk at the moment and quickly put my phone away. She waits for me to throw in my $5 limp, and then immediately says, "your hand is dead."

Take your money out and tell the dealer to FOAD.

OK, that's just terrible unless you have a different definition of "emergency" than I do.

Isn't the getting called about a family emergency but you keep on gambling anyway one of those signs that you need help. No offense, but if I got called about a family emergency I don't hang up so I can keep playing a hand preflop.

On to the other point, the dealer is being a rules nit, and should be kicked in the nutz.

who is this rule supposed to protect? Is there a way to hustle the BBJ by talking on the phone? If so, every single BBJ that hits in L.A. must be rigged, because we don't have that retarded ass rule here.
We do however have a rule that "only hundreds play" for bills and SUPPOSEDLY that can void the jackpot. (possibly specific to hollywood park)
WTF?

My guess is that casinos with jackpots say stuff like this so that they can get people to follow the rules without arguing.

One has to wonder why you answered the phone in the first place. If a family emergancy isn't important enough to interupt a hand, what is?

That said, was this your big blind? If not, you should get your $5 back as the "your hand is dead" rulling should be (if it's going to be made at all) made prior to your throwing in the $5 as you were off the phone before you did that.

Re: BBJ Ruling

It wasn't an emergency, but my mom left my front door open and my sister spotted it as she was driving by. I was trying to find out if someone could run and shut the door, before I had all my stuff stolen or otherwise I'd have to drive home and do it.

As for these rulings, the poker room says that mp3's, cash bills, and cell phones all void the BBJ because it's a law from the Louisiana State Police.

They are so full of [censored], but it's their room so whatever.
