Live 4/8 bottom pair on flop

Two similar situations came up tonight. I got to look at 2 flops from the big blind where I flopped bottom pair. Both pots were unraised preflop.

Both times a straightforward player, who I put on top pair bet with 2 callers behind. One flop had 2 of one suit and one over to my kicker and the card that paired me was not connected to the flush draw. The other hand was similar. In both cases I checked and it got to me for 7 bets. I folded in both cases and was wondering how big of a mistake this is if any.

It's standard no foldem holdem. Did I make a mistake in not seeing a turn card with the understanding that I get implied odds, or is it a situation where I could easily find myself in trouble if I get trips out kicked, or have to avoid other draws? I know its a generic question, but I see it often where there are 6 or 7 bets in the middle and I feel I should be calling with 9 or 10 or more for those times my trips or two pair may not be good by the river.

Give me a sanity check please.

This has a lot to do with board texture and action on the table. If making 2-pair has a good chance of making someone else a straight or if the board is already coordinated this is probably a good laydown.

ex 1. You have 94o and the flop is 9sTsJd - easy fold.

ex 2. You have 75o and the flop is Js6c5d - peel.
