Bad Beat JackPots

Are bad beat Jackpots worth the extra rake taken?
In order to win the bad beat jackpot you have to lose with quad 8s or better. Can someone please explain this to me with a mathematical appoarch. Thanks

They are worth the extra if you consider the type of player who plays these tables.

But not if you are thinking about the jackpot itself.

The total amount taken from players usually exceeds the amount returned. That's because there is usually some administration fee. The players are also making a loan to the casino of the average amount of the jackpot.

If you play only when the jackpot is large, you might expect to get more than your share back. This is improved further if you tend to play at tables which are loose and passive, with many people playing hands that might qualify.

According to one bonus poker site, it is actually +EV with respect to the extra rake and jackpot to play on a BBJ table when the Jackpot amount is large enough, something like over $320,000. Conversely it would -EV to play there when it is below that threshold. I'm pretty sure they are correct.
Also if you interested in an estimation of the BBJ odds to win see this:
