Worst Songs Of All Time

(Has this been covered already ?) CNN run a poll for the Worst Song Of All Time recently, with the usual suspects appearing. However, some of the entries are not that bad --- IMO Example: "I'm too sexy" by Right Said Fred I like! It's both amusing and good.

But with Lionel Ritchie, how can you fail? Here's what one voter said:

[ QUOTE ]
"Say You, Say Me", Lionel Richie (1985): "I checked, and that song really did win an Oscar. Martin Scorsese doesn't have an Oscar, but Lionel Richie does."

[/ QUOTE ]

Here is the Top 5 count-down, as voted by CNN readers (and their highest chart position):

5. "Seasons in the Sun", Terry Jacks (No. 1 for three weeks, 1974).

4. "I've Never Been to Me", Charlene (No. 3, 1982).

3. "You Light Up My Life", Debby Boone (No. 1 for 10 weeks, 1977).

2. "Muskrat Love", The Captain and Tennille (No. 4, 1976).

1. "(You're) Having My Baby", Paul Anka (No. 1 for three weeks, 1974). This choice for worst record was not even close.

I thought that "We Built This City (On Rock and Roll)" by Jefferson Starship held the title.

The mere sight of the title, "We Built This City", horrifies me and reminds me how the inescability of it came close to ruining the year 1985.

There was never a song more revolting before or since.

How can MacArthur Park not be in the top 5 worst songs of all time?

Personally, I rank it first.

Re: Worst Songs Of All Time

Gimmicky songs are excluded, correct?

I just checked my ratings in iTunes, and some of the recipients of the dreaded 1-star rating were "Shut Up" by Trick Daddy and "The Saddest Song" by The Ataris.

I'm guessing I rated the Trick Daddy song so lowly because Trick Daddy is a retard, and the Ataris song because, well, it's sad.

I like to think that the WORST SONG OF ALL TIME wouldn't be a part of my collection, though.

ANY song by the Black Eyed Pees

[/ QUOTE ]

What really depresses me about the Black Eyed Peas is that they get the freshy-fresh beats and then ruin them with some dummy-dumb lyrics... For example, "My Humps," OH THE BEAT IS SO HOT, but the song is more or less a commercial, and an unconvincing one at that. Saddening indeed.

What really pisses me off about the Black Eyed Peas is that the girl is hot as balls, but her singing voice is so deadpan, it's painful to listen to. Have her dance and make her STFU.

Side Note: She Blinded Me with Science and Whip It probably tie for #2 on this list. Also, My Neck My Back is pretty high up there.

I imagine it's some crap from some poorly selling 80s record none of us have ever heard.

Whenever I see large lots of cheap vinyl for sale I buy them no matter how crappy they are, and some of the stuff that Ive looked through in those were mind boggingly bad, I cant think of any particular song though.

This would be my vote for the worst one-hit wonder, but I think it is much more interesting to discuss songs by legitimate artists that suck a lot.

WTF. No way any Devo song qualifies for a worst song list. If you don't like Devo fine, but their songs do not belong on a worst song list.

She Blinded Me with Science gets a pass because it's one of the best early MTV videos and it has a quirky beat.

Anything by Creed or Nickleback is much worse.

It's certainly uncommon for a spoken word song to become as popular as this became.

My bottom five in no particular order-

Sk8r Boi- Avril Laigne If not just for the idiotic title. Also how crappy the song is.

I wanna talk about me- Toby Keith

That puctuation song that goes I love you period, do you love me question mark, please please exclamtion point, I wanna hold you in pharenthesis

A recent addition- Honky Tonk Badonk-a-donk

Good Charlotte- "Girls and Boys" and "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous"

And a second, third, or fourth vote for My Humps

I guess thats more than five

Re: Worst Songs Of All Time

I will never understand why David Geddes "Run Joey Run" does not top this list.

I was 16 when it came out and it cracks me up every time I have heard it (just heard it yesterday on XM) Here are the lyrics:The title of the song is RUN JOEY RUN by David Geddes. Lyrics are as follows:

Daddy please don't, it wasn't his fault, he means so much to me
Daddy please don't, we're gonna get married...just you wait and see.

She called me up, late last night, she said Joe, don't come over
My dad and I just had a fight, and he stormed out the door
I've never seen him act his this way, my God, hes going crazy
He says he's gonna make you pay, for what we've done, he's got a gun, so

Run Joey Run Joey Run
Daddy please don't, it wasn't his fault, he means so much to me
Daddy please don't, we're gonna get married...just you wait and see.

I got in my car and I drove like mad, till I reached Julie's place
She ran to me, with tears in her eyes, and bruises on her face
All at once, I saw him there, sneaking up behind me, WATCH OUT!
Then Julie yelled, he's got a gun, and she stepped in front of me
Suddenly, a shot rang out, and I saw Julie falling
I ran to her, I held her close, when I looked down, my hands were red,
and heres the last words Julie said...

Daddy please don't, it wasn't his fault, he means so much to me
Daddy please don't, we're gonna get married.....aaahhh..ahhhh
ahhhh....ahhhhh

Run Joey run Joey run Joey run Joey run Joey run

I think hands down the new #1 Worst Song Ever is the current "You Had a Bad Day". What's even worse, becasue of the title, people call in to request it when - they have had a bad day. Gag.
