Re: Lost on the turn with 98s
No, this villain is peeling so many flops that there is little difference between betting and check/folding the turn in terms of ev in my judgement. Just don't check and call. Josh is right as usual.

Re: Lost on the turn with 98s
only if you give yourself at least 7 outs.

Re: Lost on the turn with 98s
I c/f this turn, typically, but recent hands between myself and villain can alter that plan.

I could see your reasoning for check/folding here but against someone who'll call that flop with J7, I think you need to bet again. |
Re: Lost on the turn with 98s
i normally fold preflop
sometimes you can just check/fold depending on your read |
Re: Lost on the turn with 98s
folding preflop is insane, what's your vpip?

And betting again is only helpful if he peels with junk, and then wil fold said junk on the turn, because most of that junk is ahead of hero's 9-hi which will leave us having to fire again on the river. Re: Lost on the turn with 98s
28
you have a 50/50 hand oop against a guy who probably isnt folding preflop or on the flop |
Re: Lost on the turn with 98s
well thats an ok way of looking at it against a good aggressive player who will make it tough on you a lot but against an obviously ultraloose and semi-passive idiot like this guy I'll take those odds all day.

Re: Lost on the turn with 98s
he has position
you are frequently faced with a difficult turn decision where you either bet with the worst hand or just give up the pot most loose players still know how to use position to their advantage, its not like they are just going to check this down and never bluff |
Re: Lost on the turn with 98s
I really think folding preflop is a bad bad play. These hands play so well so many ways, what hands are you stealing with?
|
Re: Lost on the turn with 98s
Honestly I think its very rare where I have a difficult decision on the turn against these types of guys - personally I have no problem "giving up" on a pot on the turn if I have nothing. If I have something (gutshot+) I bet, if not I'm done. I think playing this hand here is just overwhelmingly +EV.

Re: Lost on the turn with 98s
Id raise Phil Ivey preflop.

Re: Lost on the turn with 98s
I complete this preflop and bet any flop that misses me, while check-raising if I hit gutshot or better.
Had I raised I would play it the same. |
