Need computer help, $20 on Stars
 

I'm pissed right now, cuz I just formatted and got infected when a classmate told me to d/l a program. I dled Sketchup from sketchup.com the other night, and later that night I started getting popups at random in IE browser even though I use Mozilla. I've run Hijackthis and AVG, but the popups still hit me. My computer is also running slower now, but I can't figure out what's wrong.

Anyone that helps me fully get rid of this will get $20 on stars. I figure some people here are legit with computers and need stars money. I'll provide any necessary info.

Have you tried extended amounts of swearing at your computer, then running system restore?

if u have xp , going to task manager and getting rid of most of the programs you dont need should help, odds are it will keep coming back but if u get it fast enough it might work (i dont know [censored], this is what a friend did for me tho when i had internet popups coming up out of absolutely nowhere (didnt even have internet pages up and it would show up))

Download AVG Anti-Spyware assuming you only have AVG Anti-Virus
AVG Anti-Spyware

Also you could try Ad-Aware, Spybot Search&amp;Destroy etc.

If none of these work you can try to do a System Restore.

If problem persists you will most likely have to reformat.

make sure that also if you just loaded up a wireless card, i had a problem where i couldn't load my computer cause my wireless card was havaing connection problems and had to be reinstalled..

i already installed and ran AVG anti-spyware. I'm trying system restore but I can only select the 28th and 29th. I reformatted on the 21st, so it should have some points in between the 21st and 26th, which is when I installed the program, but it doesn't so system restore doesn't seem to work.

so no, no one has won da mobnies yet.

try deleting it obviously first..

then try popupblockers deleters as such..

I don't think sketchup is causing the problem.. unless google is a bunch of bastards.

Try uninstalling sketchup, if that doesnt fix it reformat.

I've already dled and run AVG, I'm not going to just download and run 30 anti spyware programs. I'm looking for something specific for my problem.

well like the guy above me said, sketchup is safe and prolly aint the problem.. i would just do system restore to abotu a month ago..

if that doesn't solve your problem.. run a disk defragment or you have to take your computer in to best buy or something and let them clean it out

you need to hit ctrl+alt+delete and give a screenshot of what items are running in the background of task manager

also, in the run toolbar (under the start bar), type msconfig (hit enter). screenshot of what programs you have running at startup

go to microsoft.com and just search for windows defender, i hate microsoft [censored], but it works the best because microsoft realizes they [censored] up and knows where all the problems are for spyware to affect your computer etc etc etc.

that blank entry is benign but if you wanna get rid of it go to

Start, Run, Regedit
Backup registry
choose the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Run

Find the entry that has blank data and remove it.

also, dont d/l bull [censored] on the internet. only music and porno. stupid mini games that require a d/l are 99% a virus only because they can be run via flash or some other coding program these days.

yeah I rarely d/l things, which is why I'm mad I got infected. Now the popups are taunting me, opening while I run these virus killers.

windows defender didn't detect anything. balls.

did it update itself? make sure you set it up to scan your whole computer though.

its regular cursory scan doesnt check everything.

Windows defender will not find this error most likely, as it sounds like you have been infected with some sort of trojan.

There is nothing abnormal in your task manager or in the startup within msconfig, unfortunately. So its not something that most likely has a simple solution.

First off, you do not want to use Internet Explorer unless its absolutely necessary. Always use Mozilla Firefox, it prevents from a lot of unnecessary spyware infecting your computer, and just a better browser in general.

If you don't want to reformat your computer (which, if your system files have been compromised, you most likely should) you need to go here:

The scan is excellent and picks up trojans and a lot of things that other programs are incapable of recognizing.

I'm looking into it further but you should really scan using that site, it has helped me on numerous occasions in the past.

Seriously, AVG sucks. It used to be good but they fell off. Uninstall it completely and use this one:
