Making a living at the microstakes limit holdem online

Hi,

is it possible to make a living at these stakes online and if so what would you reccommend as a good way to do it.

An eample of what i mean would be to say you play 4 tables at X/X stakes and play until you've made 1 times the amount you started with. Or maybe play 2 tables at X/X stakes and play for 6 hours a day?

I'm just researching what would be the best way to do this and if anyone would care to share how they go about it.

thanks

Simon

i wouldn't even try it at micro stakes. you wont be able to make a decent ammount of money till you hit 3/6. of course, it depends on your standard of living.

why would you want to anyway? after a few months, you will wind up hating poker.

Back in the glory days of Party I would 5 table and it was fairly rare to make 100 bucks or more in a session, that was .50/1 for 3-4 hours. Granted, I sucked, but I can't imagine that I sucked so much that someone could consistently make that much at those stakes in less time. Play the game because you like it not because you want to eat.

BBB did it. But, then, BBB is an especially talented player with years of experience behind him.

Re: Making a living at the microstakes limit holdem online

My goal is to make 3k a month playing poker at one point. Considering I have made 3k in 2.5 years playing micros for 175k hands, and discounting learning curve and getting to $1 stakes, calculating rakeback (which isn't included in my first numbers) and assuming the same 3bb/100 winrate I would need to play about 100k hands a month.

25k hands a week, 5k a day at 100 hands/hour at 6 max means I need to play 5 tables at a time for 10 hours a day. If I play 7 days a week I could cut it to possibly 4 tables 8 hours a day.

I think 60 hours of micro poker week in week out would drive anyone nuts.

I think it's quite possible to live off your microstakes winnings it just depends on where you live. Move to ethiopia and you might have a chance...

i did it at 1/2 - 3/6 online but i played a lot and bonus whored a lot and my living expenses were pretty low. i hope to write about it in my 5k post (on bigbadbabar) pretty soon. i'd say it's pretty much not feasible at this point though. feel free to pm me for more info.

are you close to a casino? play live

i've made enough to live off of this year playing 5-10 - 10/20 once a week. and i'm not exactly a super expert.

Hugely important in doing this successfully is to run super hot. Srsly.

Meh, I did this too, it's certainly possible, but it's not pleasureable, that's for sure.

Re: Making a living at the microstakes limit holdem online

just 30 table .25/.50 6max... should be close to 2K hands per hour. 1BB/100 is $10/hour!! Holy-so-not-minimum-wage-aments!!!!

Then again, you could just find a job paying $10-$12/hour and 5 table .5/1 a few hours a day and enjoy your life so much more until you grow your roll more and look at it again when you are ready to play 5/10 or so.

PS - go play w/ the live fishies!

Get the idea?

Also, as others have mentioned, you will hate your life a lot less if you are going somewhere to play live as opposed to waking up, walking to the next room and playing 300 hands/hr for 8 hrs then going to bed.

All that said, a mate of mine plays online for a living. He doesn't play an awful lot of hands, but he plays mostly 5/10 (with dips into 10/20 and 15/30) and whores lots of bonus and rb. so that's not exactly micros. also, his only real expenses are partying (which he does do a lot of i guess). but that's a lot different to having to pay of a mortage or car or something. if you run bad and can't party for a week or two, thats a lot different to not having somewhere to live.

I know what I'm talking about BBB... you have the new account because Wook banned your normal account until you come up with a 5k post he deems worthy of an un-ban. Your new account registration date is a reminder of how long you've been putting off the 5k post.

or

Hmm, LOLZ could be a winner though!

I will offer you a little more encouragement. I think it’s contradictory of many posters here to imply you can’t make money, when I’m sure they would all agree that it is a game of skill. If it is a game of skill, then if you are better than others, over a period of time, you will make money.

Having said that, I think it would be very tough to make a decent living below around 5/10, but you can learn how to play.

Take these skills to a higher level or to a casino and I think there is money to be made. Though, there’s probably easier livings to be made.

Good luck.

hi second toughest, i don't think anyone is implying that you can't "make money," since it's clear that the microlimits are beatable. i think people are saying it's very difficult to "make a living" ie. make enough money to support yourself as a job.

Re: Making a living at the microstakes limit holdem online

I think it is possible to make a living playing .25/.50, though it would be the minimalist of wages. I currently play 6 tables at a time and have a winrate of about 3bb/100. This adds up to an amazing $6/hour wage. I think I would kill myself if I tried to play these games anywhere close to 40 hours a week.
