I think I found my new computer chair...

Raynor Ergohuman High-Back Mesh Chair (ME7ERG)

Custom Colors!

Everything is adjustable!

This is, by FAR, the cheapest I have seen this type of chair. I've considered a Herman Miller "Aeron" as well as the Humanscale "Freedom". A few months ago, the idea of spending $500+ on a $#%@ chair was insane. But, seeing as I'm going to be spending a ton of time everyday infront of my computer, it now seems like a wise investment. My back, which I already injured last spring, will thank me.

One very nice advantage of the Raynor isn't just the price, but the fact that Office Depot has this locally, I can use it for a month and if I don't like it, I can return it w/o penalty. Plus, as with all the others, a lifetime warranty to boot.

So, does anyone have this chair or have any other input on great (or horrible) computer/office chairs they have or have used?

Relax, it's just an ugly chair.

I have an Aeron chair, I must admit the decision was based on both looks and comfort. I can't however fault it in terms of comfort.

I'd been crunched over a badly positioned pc for a while and it really wasn't doing my back any favours. Take some time choosing a chair, remember a back is for life not just for xmas

Aeron chairs are solid so picking one up 2nd hand isn't such a bad idea if you can view it before you buy.

We have Aeron chairs at work. I love mine. Some of my co-workers hate them though. YMMV.

And see, this is my problem. It's not like local stores have these things and I'm not about to drop $900+ on a chair having never given it a test sit for an extended period of time. And I've heard enough people say that they hate the Aeron so that w/o trying it out, it's not an option.

And what am I missing about that chair? I think it "looks" pretty cool TBH.

fwiw I don't mind the suits. The chair looks good too.

I agree the suits look pretty ridiculous (even if they're not yours), though, chair doesn't look horrible, other than the top headpiece thing which looks so out of place.

I had 2 of the Herman Millers. Now say with a high pitched whiny voice a la Damon Wayans... Hated it. Found it very uncomfortable. I have since gotten chairs from Relax the Back store and got it in fabric. Fully adjustable, you don't stick to it and my dog can't f it up. Extremely comfortable. Definitely need to sit in it and judge. Need to protect the back, man.

I just bought the ergo-human because I'm suffering from sciatica. It is [censored] great. I like it better than the aeron's I've sat in and for the price, I think it's probably one of the best deals on the market.

It's really well made, easy to put together and super adjustable. It took me a little while to get used to but I love it now. I ordered from the human solution btw and was really happy with the service.

Neko 11-25-2007 01:39 AM

Re: I think I found my new computer chair...

also anybody that thinks spending $500-1000 on a chair is silly should really reconsider. Developing sciatica or some other lower back issues can really [censored] up a lot of day to day things, like not being able to sit in a movie theater for two hours because there is pain shooting down your leg and your toes are starting to go numb

Before you invest in a 2nd 24" monitor, do yourself a huge favour and get a decent chair.

how do you know if your chair isn't decent? when im at home i sit in my chair all the time, but i don't feel uncomfortable or anything.

Re: I think I found my new computer chair...

BDub, how goes it? I might be coming out to your neck of the woods again in the next few months! Thanks for the info on the chair, I'll take a look at their website as well. Again, as you said, I really want to be able to sit in the chair before I buy it, obviously, for the exact reason you mentioned...Herman Miller's are loved by many, but there are also quite a few that LOATHE them, therefore, testing is paramount to me buying a $500+ chair.

Neko, thanks for the info...that's the kind of feedback I was looking for. I'm definitely leaning that direction.

And Vyse...it's all about comfort bro. If you don't feel fatigued/sore/etc. after putting in a long session, then I'm thinking your chair is fine. YMMV.

wow, this chair looks very comfortable. I have a Herman Miller - Aeron Chair and actually like it alot. The materials they use are very well made and I would highly recommend it to anyone that sits in their computer chair more than 4 hours a day. I too was hesitant on spending $700 on a chair, but it is an investment well worth making. The best way I can describe it is getting that 2nd or 3rd monitor...you wonder how you lived without it.

The reason I would strongly consider the chair you mentioned, is because of the head-rest. The fact that I don't have to special order it from online is also a plus. I may just goto office depot or a local store and try it out. Thanks for the post and sharing.

To others that have the Aeron Chair, how does this other chair compare? I love my Aeron and never thought I would change, but I am willing to check out this new chair.

Are you referring to the one I am talking about or the Freedom by Humanscale that 1C5 brought up. Assuming you're talking about the Raynor Ergohuman, head to Office Depot and give it a sit...I'm curious as to your take on it. I found it quite comfortable and infinitely adjustable. I'm a bigger guy (6'2, 230) and I can adjust it to fit me, easily.

That said, always interested in others takes.

I wish I could find the Freedom, locally. That's the chair that I have the most interest in, but alas, I can't find it. Where have you found it? And it 'looks' great, but again, can't say as I have never tried it out.

that it the key point, if you can't try it you can't reasonably buy it. The only thing I don't like about the pictured chair is the head rest.

I was lucky my girlfriend has one that she picked up from craigslist.

one thing I can't understand about the humanscale freedom from looking here http://www.humanscale.com/products/freedom_index.cfm is how it avoids you getting a clammy back since it seems to have a solid plastic behind the panels

Zing!!

As a side topic, for those of us with not $800 to spend on a chair, is there a decent alternative around the, say, $2-300 range?

Check you PM's.

And as for a cheaper chair, the more I'm reading/researching, the more I'm seeing that the old adage of "you get what you pay for" is true. I've decided on getting the Raynor...

Just will be a little bit. I'll report later once I get it and try it out.
