Bankroll beginnings

Just thought it would be interesting to hear from people how they began their bankrolls and how long it took them to progress throught each stakes to where they play at now!

$200 in June NL25 to $3k NL100 now. I withdrew $2k last month too. I should be at NL200 but am going to be NL100 until new year I think

Re: Bankroll beginnings

Well ill go first. i began playin 5c-10c which i roughly describe as poker at all its that loose but mostly i played tournaments. I had several major cashes totally about 5k including 20th in the fulltilt weekly 750k. I knew little about cash game play and immediately started playing nl200 which i lost a LOT! of money on. I found 2p2 and begun to learn the art of cash game play finally itching towards success. I currently have a role of about the 3k mark and reside at fulltilt 100nl hoping one day to progress to the big time making the real money (as we all do haha).

Re: Bankroll beginnings

I used to play freerolls, win a bit then build that up and lose it as I was playing stakes too big for my bankroll. I think I put about $400 on about a year ago playing micro, and thats the first and last deposit I ever made. I now basically live off my bankroll which is overrolled for 1/2 that I play. Will look to easing my way into 2/4 over new year perhaps, and want to start putting a % of my winnings away each month into savings.

Re: Bankroll beginnings

I deposited $20 into Titan and played their $24 sngs, the ones with the bonus for winning 6 in a row (cause I'm delusional and thought I had a chance at winning), worked that up to 700 (won 5 in a row once), then back down to 100. Moved to Stars, got staked in a $22 180-man SNG and got 4th. Busted that money, continually loaded $22 into my account to try again at the 180s.. finally gave up and loaded $300 on Party, and turned it into a bunch of money.

Started w/ $100 on stars playing micros. I built it up to $750 and thought I was good...but it was just variance:) March 2007 is when I really started studying on 2+2 and have been a consistent winner. Did some bonus whoring/rakeback hunting for a bit and worked up to ssnl. I'm now playing 100NL cuz I withdrew a
lot of my roll to by a house.

Well this is a new thing for me (over the summer holidays and past month or two). I'm at uni in London, so my loan basically goes on partying. I dont know what I'd do without my poker money for rent/food/etc. Hopefully should have near a $10k month for Nov without RB and bonuses which obviously add up to a few $k also. This is by far my best month to date as I've really knuckled down and played a lot of hands for me.

had £50 on betfair. played £5 SNGs. Was break even for a few weeks, then grew and grew, soon on £10 SNGs which i grinded for months.

moved to cash, 10k hands at NL50 and never looked back, peaked at NL500. but cashed out loads for car and flat.

so never really made a deposit...ever.

Re: Bankroll beginnings

Yeah beating NL100 for a decent winrate makes an allright living IMO. (EDIT: If you're willing to put in the hands)

I started with $50 in october 2006, played NL4 up to $100, ran it up to $300 in january playing NL10. Got drunk one night and lost everything playing NL50 heads up. Took $500 from my paycheck and deposited it to play NL25 in mid february (EDIT: also found/joined 2+2 at this time). Moved to NL50 in march, NL100 in april and NL200 in may.

It wasn't that easy as it sounds, it took me three shots to stay at NL10, two for NL25, three for NL50. NL100 is the only limit I've beat on the first shot. I played NL200 all summer until I hit a huge downswing in august which made me move down to NL50 to retool my game. I'm now playing NL100 although I'm rolled for NL200. Been living off my poker earnings since may.

When i was 18, i deposited $250 into 5 different sites, to get bonusses and stuff.

Now 3 years after, I have been withdrawing almost every month, totally probaly $30-40k or so.

Finally decided to only withdraw rakeback now, so build a $13k roll. (beat: playing NL100)

I play way too much though, should study more or i'm gonna fail exams. lol

not sure if this is directed at me, but I'll just assume it is :P

I played some 25nl about 2 years ago on party for a few months...made a little bit of money but ultimately cashed out and put it into school. I didn't really have time to play until a few months ago, when I got a full-time job.

I logged into Party (planning to deposit) and saw they gave me $5. I said what the hell and sat at a 5nl FR table with it, won a couple stacks and then worked it up to where I am now without having to deposit.

Re: Bankroll beginnings

started with free $50 promotion for partypoker from some website back in the good old party days. I knew a little bit about BR management but not much. I played the turbo sngs and progressed fairly quickly from the 5s, to the 11s, to the 22s and turned my 50 into about 1650 in a couple of months. I was 16 and thought i was the [censored] at poker (you know, pokersss ezzzz!) Anyway i realized i had just run pretty well, and i started to lose again and my br kinda leveled off around 800 with me playing the $11 sngs.

Found 2+2 and ftr.com, read about lots of players switching from tourneys to cash, tried it out, started at 25NL, did pretty well, after 6mths my BR was at 8k and i was grindin 100NL. I wouldn't say i was a great player tho, i didn't even have PT or PAHUD, but i would say that my stats were a little fishy (im guessing i was running like 30/18, limped wayyyy too much).

Party goes out for US players--->I move to Absolute. Do alright there for a few months, make around 3k.

Decide Absolute game selection sucks---->move to Full Tilt. Where I have been playing for 5 months and started from 500 at the 50NL game, and am now at 10K playing 200NL.

cliffnotes:
never deposited, started with free $$$ promotion at Party
Sngs---->cash games
Absolute---->FTP, got somewhat serious about my game

Re: Bankroll beginnings

I got 50$ for free at party beginning of this year. Was messing around a little, getting PT and the like, deposited 50E (which then still was approx 50$, so unlucky). I played mostly for fun, I was partying/socializing way too much to play poker seriously. After exams in June a lot of my friends left, and I started playing more seriously (had about 300$ in my acc I think). 50k hands an a couple of months later im playing 100NL instead of 25NL, and Ive cashed out a small amount to buy me some new clothes and [censored].

I know a guy who is atm pro-pokerplayer at 50NL. However, I think that is not really possible in a expensive country like Holland, so he will probably bust.

I play for a living at $0.5-$1. I do live in a very small town, pop. 600, where cost of living is low. Although, I know I make more money than the people I graduated with in college. I was an accounting major.

Re: Bankroll beginnings

Deposited $50 at Pacific Poker about 4 years ago and got a $25 bonus. Played the penny limit games and a couple months later had about $300. Moved entire roll over to Party where I started playing $10 sngs. Ran hot and moved up in stakes eventually to the $100 sngs in about five months.

Continued playing strictly sngs for the next couple years off and on. Eventually got bored of them and just stopped playing/cashed out my entire roll.

A little over a year ago Party gave my a free $40 so I started playing again. Played $5+1 sngs and turned it into $1000+ pretty quickly. Internet gaming bill passes, moved roll over to stars. Moved up in sng stakes to the 27s over time. Got bored of sngs again but instead of cashing out roll I started playing cash. Played 100 NL from about January of this year for a couple months. Stopped playing again for about four or five months. Started up again in July at 100 NL. Moved up to 200 NL a couple months later.

Still playing 200 now, maybe moving up at some point soon. Online roll is about 20k but I'm a br nit and I still suck at poker.

edit: oh and completely OT but where in Ohio do you live thac? I'm from Worthington and currently go to OSU.

Won several small MTTs ranging from $3k-$10k. Never really played cash games. Played 1-2NL and lost several buyins. Moved down to .5/1 NL and lost 13buyins in a month. Last month played 15k hands of break even poker at .5/1.

I am currently playing .25/.50 NL with an $8k bankroll. LOL. I also am a member of cardrunners, have PT, and PAHUD. I pretty much suck at cash games. Help!

Re: Bankroll beginnings

never played poker before, but with all the talk of warcraft 3 progamers changing to poker (i played wc3 at a pretty high level) i deposited 80$ in november '2006

lost most of it playing various games and then running bad (ofc i played horrible, but i lost like three 90/10's at nl5 ... i still remember the hands )

decided to be disciplined with my last 20$ and started playing 0.02/.04 limit fullring

in march '07 i was at .5/1, moved to a site with rb ... got pokertracker and switched to 6max, playing 2/4 6max in june and july

in july i was sick of the swings, and i thought (still think) that NLHE has potential for higher $/hour given the same amount of time invested than limit ... so i cashed out most of my winnings to pay for one year of expenses (car+booze basicly, cashed out like 4500€ or 7k$) and switched to nl25

donked around, in the beginning of september i moved up to nl50, played 40k hands, nl100 at the beginning of october, played 40k hands, nl200 at beginning of november, ran sick hot (9ptbb over 26k hands this month) ... 15k bankroll now

so after exactly a year i made 20k$+ from the 20$ i started playing .02/.04 FR limit with ... pretty sweet

Deposited $35 on a prima skin in October 2004, lost it all in a week. Was like OH [censored] I LOST MONEY GAMBLING ONLINE. So I decided to read what I could dig up online on poker, then deposited $50 built that up to $200 playing $20NL, moved it to another site to bonus whore, ran it up to $500 playing $25nl.

Deposited on party where I grinded my way up to $1000nl. Got sick of poker around april 2006, cashed out $100k leaving $2000.

Started again in august playing $200nl. Back to square 5

Was playing LHE online last year and praciticing horrible BR management.

Found NLH and was a total monkey. After turning another $300 into $36 back on Feb. 16 of this year, told myself I either learn to play NL for real, or I stick to live only.

So from that $36 on Feb 16. to just over $14,000 now....

Deposited $50 on Party a year or so back after buying Internet Texas Hold'em. Played .15/.30 limit. Did mediocre. Eventually improved, alot. Grinded up to consistently playing 10/20 limit. Went on a nasty downswing about the same time Neteller froze a huge chunk of my bankroll. Decided limit was annoying. Learned NL. Started at $50. Now playing $200 to $400 NL as my main source of income.

Also, mix in lots of experiments at varying stakes LO8/PLO/PLO8.

I got $50 for free at Party through some bonus code on a website around November 2006. Played 25NL and I got it up to $140 and then down to about $10. I learned quite a bit over that period though.

I then deposited $30 on a Prima site last February, played 5NL and 10NL and began reading and studying the game more. Around April I started to get it a little and moved up from 25NL to 200NL in about 3 months. My roll is now at about $15k and I am taking shots at NL400.

I revisited my Party account with the $10 on it and got that up to $170 Can't imagine I had any problems at those games when I started.

played live for most of my poker career. homegames/underground games/etc. i didnt deposit until i was like 18, and this january will be my 2 year anniversary of playing online. read 2p2 intently before i ever played a hand of online poker and i had a semi idea of what was going on. deposited $200 and played on friends acct/made $200 from there so started with $400 and never looked back.

Played extremely underrolled at 500NL then 1000NL @ pitbullpoker (ever heard of it?), was ok because people were 10x worse than I was, ran it up to 15k over three months and used some of it for FTP roll.

Re: Bankroll beginnings

Got 50$ on pary last august and played 0.5/1 limit there. Bonus whored a lot. Had huge losing week at the end of february @3/6limit.

I cashed out pretty much all my bankroll and started learning NL10 on party with 300$ roll in march, moved quickly to nl25 where i tilted like [censored] and i think im lifetime looser there.
Moved to nl50 a bit underrolled in the middle of april and crushed it. In the middle of may a had 30bi for nl100 after that i took a lot of unsuccesfull , tilty and spewy shots on nl200.
Had 25+bi downer this month at nl100 so i cashed out large chunk of my bankroll about 2 weeks ago and left about 1500 online. ATM im 11,5ptbb winner at nl50 over 22k hands.

yey me.

For those saying it is possible to grind out a living at 1/2, what do you consider to be "a living?" 50k a year? 100k a year? I'd love to hear what those who are actually doing this right now are making.
