trip report: made OPs in both Politics and Sporting Events forums

so i guess someone slipped LSD into my soda, cuz i made OPs in Politics and Sporting Events. obv both degenerated into a ridiculous and head-asplode-inducing nit battles. like srsly. i can't tell which is worse.

politics: 50 jackholes licking each others buuuhole and talking about anarchocapitalism (yea, that'll work!!! lol) and/or taxes indefinitely without any sense of reason or common sense. huge, enormous, petty bitchy little nits.

sporting events: like 8 ppl basically make up the entire forum, and all they do is post things like this: 311/365/509 ... zomgsbhtjksta PECOTA SABERMETRICS WARP VORP and argue about statistics as though math gave them giant chubby erections and helped them splooge on the screen

you guys think OOT is nitty? not even close. politics and sporting events even make SMP look down-to-earth. i mean wow. come on.

so whaddya say we troll them?

jk

The answer to your poll is "politics" and its not even remotely close.

no wai dude... and imo it's close. politics has generally worse posting, since every jackass seems to have some barely-formed thought about most things political. on the other hand, sometimes someone might say something interesting or accidentally funny.

sporting events is boring, snobby and elitist mixed with "middle aged fat guy in a smelly jersey breaking down to the 0.00000X decimal place who should be the backup 2B on the 2007 AL all star roster" and hometown boorishness

both are awful, but i'll take SE any day over politics fwiw

Re: trip report: made OPs in both Politics and Sporting Events forums

Politics <<< SE. But politics doesn't really suck for the reason you said it does; it sucks because everyone just has the same argument every day and no one ever really listens to anyone else. Also, no one can ever have a genuine discussion about anything because they're too busy being combative/dismissive of opposing viewpoints.

SE is ok, but you pretty much nailed what sucks about it.

Mbillie, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your Politics experience. I looked over your thread and I only found a couple hijacking posts and taxes are an important component of your question.

As for my forum being full of nits, I guess that's just the kind of person who generally likes to talk politics.

qft, I mean I post regularly in SE, I just think it sucks a lot of the time because it's so hilariously geeky and statistic even when it blatantly doesn't apply

politics... I dunno. it just makes my head hurt that there are still people in 2007 who really, actually believe some of that stuff.

things I hated about that thread

1: inevitably discussion becomes "well why can't I marry my trash can / dog / cat / dumpster / 50 wives / etc" or "well obviously human beings exist in order to have children, etc"

2: ridiculous that every single discussion boils down to anarchocapitalism. I mean I'm a bit of a libertarian but come on. never gonna happen, idealism is counterproductive.

3: the standard "LOLOL EVERYONE DOES HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS CUZ NOBODY CAN SAME-SEX MARRY, EVEN STRAIGHT PPL!!!!!11!!!11" argument, that is linguistic / point-missing to the nth degree

wtf se is great, esp when assani fisher shows up - and whenever anyone brings up the 'statistics don't matter' argument, the prop bets/e-penis waving begin - it's like the changing of the leaves, inevitable and yet still beautiful

I like SE, I read it constantly and post in it somewhat regularly, I just hate that every single thread degenerates into an corny overanalysis of the road splits against left handed pitchers with one testicle by the same 5 or 6 cats

Most of the posters are free market anarchists. What did you expect? Especially in a thread about how the government should get out of the marriage business. Uh, hello?

Again, not from the people you are bitching about.

So basically, you made a thread that went exactly where it should have given where you made it, sucked your panties into your anus about some posts made by some people who are not the people you are complaining about, so you came here and bitched about it.

YOU DA MAN

sorry but politics sucks. occasionally i misclick into that forum and it is the same 20 people it was when i stopped reading/posting in 05. i'm much more of an ACer thanks to it, but being an ACer is like being a Jew without the funny hats - you wait for relevation that's never coming, and in the meantime you get to be miserable

Quanah Parker 11-20-2007 05:26 PM

Re: trip report: made OPs in both Politics and Sporting Events forums

The folks who constantly argue politics are usually the same ones who are way too uptight to actually discuss the fun, mysteries, and joy of sex and sexuality.

Boobies!!!

Re: trip report: made OPs in both Politics and Sporting Events forums

dude with all due respect stop turning this into a politics thread. I was bitching about those things I mentioned and the perpetual "ACism" discussion.

with respect to the cancer argument / idealism - the 1700s called, they want their ideas back.

Both are very similar.

Politics - Nobody will agree on anything other than what side of the fence they are on.
Sports - Nobody will agree on anything other than what team they like.

Re: trip report: made OPs in both Politics and Sporting Events forums

I'm not going to get into a detailed discussion of the downfalls of philosophical idealism. Try reading oh, I dunno, Nietzsche, Husserl, Levinas, Wittgenstein, Merleau-Ponty, really anyone who wrote after Kant.

Both politics and sporting events could be cool forums if it wasn't for all the nits. As is they kinda suck, so I guess I agree with the op.
