The Well: dobieatwar (stats/pathetic staking request included)

I have been at 2+2 for a while, and my name often comes up in threads, but I never revealed my screenname, although some people might have figured it out by my obvious avatar.

I withdrew most and busted my remaining funds.

I would like a stake for just today until I can rebuild. I will transfer the money back at the end of the day with 50% of the profits. I will play 8-12 tables of whatever I am staked, so if 200 then I play NL25, 800-1200 NL100 etc. I will split it between multiple stakers starting at noon EST.

Possibly interested in a longer term higher buyin MTT stake if anyone else is interested.

5 screenshots of my stats are below. Below that are 3 hand histories showing where I lost my remaining money.

Ask me any questions here as well.

why do u think minraising and minbetting is an effective strategy?

(srs question...not trying to b an ass)

BigBiceps 11-20-2007 12:37 PM

Re: The Well: dobieatwar (stats/pathetic staking request included)

Because I consider open limping to almost always be a mistake.

I also consider playing too tight (<15% VPIP) to be a mistake.

Also, it encourages others to make mistakes when playing against me.

And the main reason: It is fun!

btw: congrats on your first place in the daily double that day, the opponents were truly pathetic.

Why are you a tilt monkey? (serious question not patronizing)

BigBiceps 11-20-2007 12:42 PM

Re: The Well: dobieatwar (stats/pathetic staking request included)

I prefer full ring, because I feel in the long run the rake is prohibitive at 6-max.

My style probably works better at 6-max, but hand reading is alot harder for me at 6-max, and that is one of my major strengths.

I do not think I tilt very often, seriously. Please explain in more detail.

fair enuff. i remember u being a spewfish at 50 (6max)...but fairly decent at 60 (deep 6max). i guess ur style works well when u can incorporate solid pot control...

Well what caused the jump to 25/50 dollar blinds is the main question?

As my stats indicate, I did not play much 6-max.

Are you also playing under the name MJ_GOAT?

Yes, that was in fact a form of tilt. But, an episode of tilt, even if it is a major one does not mean I am a tilt monkey.

In fact, even at the NL5000 game, I never once got my money in bad.

Why did you decide to withdraw all your money from FTP?
Are you going to retire from playing poker? Or just moving to another site?

(i am not infact "MJ_GOAT")

i didnt play 60deep for an extended period of time...but when the game first started rly goin i made a killing (22bb/100 over 6K). and then the game got rly "regularly"...and it didnt appeal to me anymore

I didn't, I made my regular monthly withdrawal and then I busted my remaining $2200.

I am not sure.

I seriously am looking for a stake today to play. I don't know what I will do with all my free time without poker.

if you can write me a 10page paper (double spaced, 12pt font) on why ur style is +EV, and what u feel u offer to the game...then ill consider giving u a steak for 25 or 50.

I can't really fill up 10 pages with a bunch of baloney.

There is not one single style that is +EV. There are multiple styles that are +EV, you just have to choose the one that works for you.

In summary, why this style is +EV is simple, I make more correct decisions in terms of $ than my opponents. Even if every single minraise is a small error, the total $ amount of errors is higher by my opponents.

from what ive played with Doobie, yes. however, not much can b sed from limited sample sizes. also, i dont feel my request is degrading or rude in the slightest...if u want to b steaked, u shud b prepared to give some1 reason to steak u. very logical

(also, i kno its "stake")

How much longer term. I might consider something for the remainder of the week or month.

For longer term, I would only be interested in higher buyin MTTs. It doesn't really make sense for ring games because for the first 2 stats screenshots, the $/hr are $34.85 and $33.62 with MT ratios of 8.0 and 8.8 respectively.

Re: The Well: dobieatwar (stats/pathetic staking request included)

My thoughts on doobie from our sessions.

I think Dobie style is just fine at 100nl.. switching to 50bb deep generates good SPR for himself with TP type hands, loses some value from SCs and sets, although makes getting in with sets much easier. He is essentially playing 200nl at 100nl tables, this provides an edge as some players there feel unfortable with the bet sizes.

He also manages to mask his true stats via the pf mr. His pfr is essentially his VPIP which provides an addition edge. He has the option of reverting to 100bb deep when he feels it appropraite.

His opps do not adjust well, very often they think the mr is a monster pf hand and fold the flop to a pathetic cbet (1 dollar right doobie), he scoops a lot of free money in this way. Conversely some think the mr is [censored] and play back.

Its a bit simple.. but that i think is the most obvious benefits you gain from your style. This excludes general poker skills, hand reading, bet sizing, bluff-wiseness, etc.

So.... i think its a novel style that works. gj dobie

Re: The Well: dobieatwar (stats/pathetic staking request included)

LOL, I can't believe you grinded more than half a million hands and then went and busted your roll at NL5K. What in the world were you thinking?!?!

Also, dobie, I've played with you a fair amount. You're an okay player, but there's a lot of room for improvement. For as aggro as you are preflop, you are too nitty postflop. And your W$WSF is too low.

If you think your hand reading is below average, you probably don't want to play 25/17. It just puts you into too many marginal spots post.

Good luck to you.

Ron Burgundy 11-20-2007 02:37 PM

Re: The Well: dobieatwar (stats/pathetic staking request included)

I would never stake you. Not because I don't think you're a winning player, not because I personally dislike you, but because you are in fact a tilt monkey. Staking you is an investment with a significant risk of default.

dobieatwar 11-20-2007 02:40 PM

Re: The Well: dobieatwar (stats/pathetic staking request included)

I busted $2200. I was thinking I didn't care any more and was sick of grinding. In actuality it is a major part of my life and not playing only for 5 days I am finding I have nothing to do with my time.

I think 33% won money when saw flop was a decent amount. Alot of the flops I am seeing are not heads-up like the ones you probably are seeing. What are you thinking W$WSF should be closer to?

I think my hand reading is much above average at full ring. Not below average - that was 6-max I was refering to.

I like the marginal spots. Those decisions are what make the game fun.
