I went 0/10 in prop bets this weekend - rate my plays

drunken weekend with the boys out of town - we decided to spice it up with some $20-$50 prop bets. At the time I thought all of these bets were at least neutral ev, but in my sober state I'm starting to reconsider. Am I just running bad or am I a moron? I realize a lot of these are skill based and you don't know how skilled or unskilled I am, but the results should show some indication of it. which of these losing bets has the least amount of EV? (results of each bet in white underneath)

Eric Lindros just retired and we debated if he should go into the hall of fame. He won the MVP once and I bet that no player had ever won the MVP and is not in the hall of fame.
<font color="white">2 other players have won the MVP and are not in the hall of fame, not including active players who probably wont be inducted.</font>

Name every country in South America
<font color="white">I got 10/12 missing surinam and Guyana</font>

Name every country in Europe
<font color="white">I got 42/47, missing a ton of gay former yugoslavia</font>

Name 20 of 23 players who are in the 500 home run club
<font color="white">I got 18 but also said a few that weren't on the list</font>

This one was a heads up duel - first to name all 50 states.
<font color="white">I got to 48 to his 50. Sat there for 5 minutes+ without coming up with mass and wyoming for some reason</font>

The year of Cobains death being 1995+
<font color="white">he died april 1994</font>

Population of British Columbia being higher than Quebec
<font color="white">bc has like 4 million to quebec's 6+</font>

Population of Edmonton(and greater area) less than 1 million
<font color="white">this one was a draw as we found 2 numbers on wiki, one over and one under</font>

And two sports bets, one on the leafs to beat the rangers with 2 minutes remaining in the game, and the other for the dolphins to cover the spread of +3 against the bills.
<font color="white">rangers won in a shootout and the dolphins pushed</font> <font color="white"> </font> <font color="white"> </font> <font color="white"> </font> <font color="black"> </font> <font color="white"> </font> <font color="white"> </font> <font color="white"> </font> <font color="white"> </font> <font color="white"> </font> <font color="white"> </font> <font color="white"> </font> <font color="white"> </font>

You sure you know all those ex-Yugoslavian and ex-USSR countries? They seem to change every two years or so.

South America should be easier.

Ex-Yugoslavian: Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia &amp; Herzegovina, Macedonia.

Ex-USSR: Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, rest of them are in Asia.

South America is really easy if you don't forget the two small non-Latin countries.

Cobain had the lowest EV. Unless I misunderstand something, I don't know how you could take some of these bets. If you are not sure of something, and someone else is willing to bet that is's not true - well, you're going to lose probably.

The Europe one depends on the rules. Do you only get one shot? Or is it like you name 38 countries and your friends say "no there's still more try again" If it's like option one and pays 1:1 I'd say this is the worst EV for most people. I doubt I could name 20 500 HR players though. South America is easy though!

such a brag. you're going to have to take me at my word that I'm not using any help on this end.

start at the north and move down for best results:

Columbia
Peru
Venezuela
Ecuador
Equatorial Guinea
French Guyana?
Brazil
Uruguay
Paraguay
Argentina
Chile
Bolivia
the Falkland Islands are still a British protectorate, right?

I might be missing one but I don't think so. I'll check and edit

EDIT: Equatorial Guinea is in Africa. I mixed that up with Guyana. I also missed Suriname. I knew that but I forgot. My bad. Interestingly enough, I find Europe easier.

I'm not a huge NHL fan but I know that in basketball, football, and baseball this bet would be really -EV. I'd assume the same for NHL.

the thing about the hockey hall of fame is they are much more lenient about who they let in. I thought this would help my cause. In the end only 2 all time MVP winners are not in the hall of fame, so it was at least close (albeit a -ev bet with no inside knowledge or odds)

Bill Ranford in 1990 is the one off the top of my head. The Europe bet was plain silly unless you study that stuff for prop bet purposes.

The secret to these bets is to get like 10 subject areas that no sane person knows and memorize them. Then try to work them into your prop bet negotiations. It is a real art to not make it obvious that you know the answers beforehand.

The Edmonton bet is too open to semantics. What exactly constitiutes the surrounding areas? You could argue for hours on this one. If you start to include places 10-15min drive from Edmonton, you get over 1 million easily.
