Hello Community,

The richest man in the world has just offered you an amount of your choice to stop playing poker forever.

All versions of the game. There is no situation where u may ever play again, i.e. time machine, immortality, gift from the deity of your preference.

Not play money, not for tic tacs in San Quentin.

Only stipulation, you must quit poker forever.

What $ amount would you settle for?

these kind of questions are impossible to answer...to someone who said 1 million...would you say no to 999,999?

you can continue to subtract a dollar and there never is a line where you would say yes or no with a one dollar difference

im not sure what you are implying here...

if you are implying what i said is wrong because you could do the same thing with the driving age you are a complete idiot

it is very easy to draw a clear line for the proper age for a driver's license...your analogy is horrible

it is a matter of a opinion, but you can still definitively say yes to a 17 year old..and no to a 16 year old

to counter what your next point will be...no they cannot get their license at 16 years and 364 days...not because that one extra day grants them more maturity, but because in this case it is determining a law and there has to be a logical cutoff

At some point there is a line because someone who will quit for 500k wont quit for 50k. This may not change at some singular dollar. But when?

you cant see this question and just answer 1 million off the top of your head...what im getting at, is most peoples true answer to this question is far lower then what their first answer that comes to them will be

what makes this difference, is there is no NEED for a cutoff which is why the question is theoretically impossible to answer...in the license case there needs to be a specific cutoff for the law

This question is weird for me. Whenever I think of what I would do if I had a lot of money, playing high stakes poker is always high on my list. The more money the guy'd give me, the higher I'd imagine myself playing. I'm trying to say, one of the top goals for me, when I'm making money, is to be able to regularly go to casinos. So this question requires basically backwards thinking for me.

I don't know. I guess I couldn't refuse $500,000, because of how much I'd be able to help my family with that.

I would still play for fun real or play money and of course play my best game.
I honestly don't think there's anyone who starts to play poker and stops forever
It will always be part of your life and not necessarily real money.

Thanks for replying. You are most likely the highest earning player in this thread, aside from maybe Timex. Why do u feel this way? Clearly your outlook on the game has changed from a year ago, i was wondering if you mind expanding on this a bit.

Is it your personal skill level you question? Or just the state of the game given the legislation?

state of the game. players getting better, no guarantee for a future for online poker. Also if I had $2m on top of my current net worth I would have so much expendable money that I could do so much with.... + the opportunity cost of all those hours playing poker. Also now that players are slightly better so much is variance and luck, meh.

might sound ridiculous but pretty sure if i make it to 40 or 50 i will still be playing live HSNL or similar for fun/mental competition, so even though i feel like i can't wait to get to the point where i feel i have enough money to escape having to grind all the time/playing for a living if i'm honest with myself it would take a LOT of [censored] money to get me to quit something that not only satisfies my obsessive need for mental competition but rewards it with the spoils.

even though i often feel like i only play poker at the moment for the money, i'm pretty sure if i live the life i want to live and spend a bunch of time doing non poker things in my thirties, by the time i make middle age poker will be one of my favourite things to do for fun. so yeah, a truckload of money or just let me play pls.
