Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (Nintendo Wii)

I'm thinking of picking this up. Has anyone tried it yet?

It got a decent review at IGN. 7.9

Think it's worth a buy?

i'll prolly rent it at some point

it was developed in-house with nintendo, so that's a plus

but i'm not sure it's gonna be a buy...i'd rather get rayman 2

We just received it from Gamefly this today. It appears to be pretty good but we have only played a little. I will play more tomorrow and post a follow up.

The videos and screen shots with the different events make it look fantastic.

The problem here is that there are already a ton of similar games. Not the same exact theme obviously but games that are a lot of fun when playing in a party atmosphere but that aren't very deep, especially in single-player mode.

I'll probably get this though and not Rayman 2 as I don't really see there being a huge advantage to having a new Rayman game. If my friends like the first game then we'll play that. If they don't like the raving rabbids as much we'll play mario party, warioware, or this olympic thing. I guess the controls will be better in the rabbids sequel but among my friends a couple love that game and a couple don't really care for it so I don't think the improvement will be worth an extra game with all the great games that are coming.

Re: Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (Nintendo Wii)

Picked up the game over the weekend. Both of my kids (14 and 10) love it. The events are fun and we are still trying to unlock everything. Of course some of the events are repetitive, but that doesn't make them easy. Table Tennis and Shooting are giving us the most trouble. The Tripel jump is a cool use of the Wii controllers. It seems this one will have some replayable.

I haven't tried to import a Mii into the game yet. Has anyone done this?

I love it. I am currently on the last circuit and it is much more difficult than the first 3 circuits. I'm not a big fan of the shooting and table tennis but I like the rest of the events. This is the best party game on the system and it allows you to handicap other players to move them up to your level. The only thing missing is online play. If it had that capability, it would be one of the best games on the system.

Still have only been able to try a few of the games but we are having fun with it so far. I was actually sore a bit after the rowing game. I agree that shooting was tough. I am not sure that i will ever be able to do that one well. Still trying to find time to play. We also received LEGO Star Wars via gamefly at the same time and I am playing that mostly.

Is completing the circuits the way to open up all the games or do you need to do the individual character missions as well. My daughter wants to play the high jump.

Any more reviews now that people have played it longer?

In the video most of the events seemed to be a lot of running by moving the hands up and down. Is that the case? How are fencing and the other non-track games?

I'm thinking of picking this up to play with my pseudo-family for Thanksgiving.

Jared,

The triple jump is pretty cool. Swimming relays are fun. Rowing and trampoline require some quick button work. Both my kids (10 and 14) like this game. There is also a way to handicap players to even it up for everyone. The dream race is kinda like mariocart.

Re: Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (Nintendo Wii)

This came yesterday and me and some friends played it all night over a few beers. Great game, only problem is you have to play it in single player mode (I think) for a couple of hours at first to unlock all the stuff. My arms and shoulders are in a lot of pain today - it just took me about 5 minutes to put my coat on.

are we really supposed to believe that mario can keep up with sonic in a race?

I've never lost the 100 meter dash with Sonic. My best time is a 9.556. Mario destroys Sonic in the field events. Playing as your Mii is pretty cool.
