anyone know anything about this other than that FTP pulled out? Are there sats anymore? is there a guarantee? is the casino reputable? Anyone going? etc, any and all information

I have no idea whether it's ok to post this link or not, but here's the most official looking website I could find...unfortunately not a hell of a lot of info, but it doesn't look like much of a tourney Moscow Millions

A couple other things I've seen that are not official and may be rumors, but may not, are that the field is capped at 150 people and they expect it to fill up. However, the super sat the day before makes me think that maybe interest hasn't been as high as they are hoping.

I have a meeting in the evening with the organizers of the event as they want me to work as an announcer/live commentator during the event. So if you have any questions, post them here - I will be here reading for an hour.

As far as I know it will be a pretty small tournament, even 150 participants will be a surprise for me. Recent 3K event had 66 participants, so I expect around 100 here. The casino is fine, and of course all the comments about "Russia is dangerous" in the other thread are just rubbish...

Edit: Jeff, if you come, you'll be one of the top favourites for sure [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] I can't think about more than 3-5 Russian players of your level...

EC, you are one of the best posters here. It's hilarious when you're writing stuff like this. Believe me, there is no big difference between Moscow and London nowadays. I haven't been to the US, so I can't think about some American city...

i haven't been to Moscow so i'm not speaking from personal experience but i do have a lot of family in that part of the world including an uncle who does a lot of business in Russia. when i told him i played poker he became very disappointed and worried, and begged me to immediately cash out my winnings and stop playing before i had my money taken. he was absolutely convinced that there was no way a casino/casino owners could be anything but shady gangsters (and he is a very smart, well traveled business man). i had to explain to him it doesn't work like that and it wasn't until my mother assured him i was doing it safe that he believed me.

if you are really telling me that casinos in Moscow are safe and that flash action jeff walking around in his expensive clothes won't get beaten up/killed walking the streets then i might be willing to change my mind.

and btw i have no clue what Moscow=London=Detroit is supposed to mean [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] i have been to both London and Detroit dozens of times and they are nothing alike.

As Ilushan ve said the casino and people organizing the tournament are trusted. There is one thing i really like about this tournaments tho: the structure is like perfect.

Well, guys, it's unbelievable that young, smart people can be so influenced by stupid old-fashioned fairy-tales.

I won 2K buy-in event a week ago in the Moscow casino. It was early morning, I went out with 20K in my pocket and didn't even bother to look for a taxi. Metro seemed absolutely fine for me. Well, only now I realized how lucky I was that I wasn't killed. This luck continues for 29 years already - I'm running good!

Moscow is fine and safe. However i expect the field to be pretty small so its not worth going unless you live close by and/or want to just visit Russia.

jeez.. i'm from detroit, worked there for a year last year. Nothing really to be worried about. Honestly, Detroit is no different than any other city in the world. Don't be stupid and draw attention to yourself. There are going to be good places in the city and there are going to be bad places. Both of the casino's are in good places in town and with the mass transit system (ie - the people mover) you can park in parking ramp and get on it and never even see the street...

It's not that we hate blacks, it's just that there aren't any. I lived in Russia until I was 13, and during that time, saw one black person. FWIW, I wasn't from Moscow, and I'm sure there are more black people there than in other parts of the country, but probably not by much.

And it's not only blacks that aren't liked. People aren't generally liked unless they are white & Russian, including Gypsies, people from southern Russian speaking ex-soviet republics (Georgia/Turkmenistan, etc), Jews, and anybody dark skinned really.

It's pretty ignorant, but that's how we roll for some reason. :\

I also wouldn't worry about getting robbed in Moscow. It's more expensive than NYC to live there, there's plenty of other people besides you to rob. People WILL try to scam you every step of the way though. From overcharging to giving you misleading information for the purposes of getting money. (Last time I arrived @ airport, I was told by airport employee the bus to metro was broken, & taxi was the only way to go, which was a lie).

Russians in general don't hate blacks, Caucasians etc. Of course there is some percent of haters, which is probably bigger than in the US, England or Australia as the country is less educated, but, come on, any generalisation is ridiculous.

I'm a jew and I look like a jew and I had no problems living here for my whole life. I hope we'll have EPT event soon, may be it will attract more players to the country and they will see that it's not Burundi or Sierra-Leone, though my feeling about these countries may be as far from reality as your's about Russia [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Yeah, seriously. I've got a bunch of friends from Zambia who spend a year studying in Russia. They knew several people who got beaten by skinheads, and one of them was stabbed and killed.

Russia is a beautifull wide-spread in different ways country with it's cruel and great pieces of history. The majority of people living there are very normal open-minded and have a big heart for everything that worth beeing on this planet.

Yeah, I guess I was making ridiculous generalised remarks with my specifics examples of horrific racist violence in Russia against people I know. Hell, maybe I just made that [censored] up.

If you are denying that Russia has serious problem with racism and institutionalised scapegoating of minorities by the government that you don't know what you are talking about.

This is a government which introduced racial quotas for who could work in certain markets. Sound familiar to anyone?

I read an article about 2 years ago about 3-4 British poker players who played an event in Russia and had trouble getting a large (~£50k) out of the country. I searched for it but couldn't find it, the conclusion was that they got [censored] over on either bribes or taxes.

That said, i've been to St Petersburg and it's a lovely city. Moscow is probably nice as well. The people are like the weather though

The fact of the matter is that Russia's government is corrupt, and this COULD lead to problems, but Moscow especially is a lot better than it used to be, and is a lot more an American city.

Overall it's safe, think about the bad stories your hearing as 1 outers on the river.

I'm not talking out of my ass here either, I'm Russian(Live in NYC now), and a lot of my friends are in and out of Moscow pretty often.

Ilushan, what's the buy in for the event? And if it's around 10k+ do you know if there are any satellites left online?
