Be as normal as possible. Cops don't really like free thinkers.

Re: playing with cops
Looks like we've got a road game sarge
Eh, cops are normal people. A friend of mine is a CHP and he couldn't make a game, but he came by to fake a raid while on break. Shoulda seen the look on a couple of dope smoker's faces. Like I said, normal people. Another regular player is a sherrif. He knows about the funny smell, but we respect his job etc, so we go out back, but it is obvious what is happening. |
Re: playing with cops
Is the game in Binghamton?
|
Re: playing with cops
dont bring weed?

Re: playing with cops
Hell, I wish we had a cop or two in our game. It'd be good security. And we do plenty of illegal stuff.
|
Re: playing with cops
OP might be surprised. Many cops are pretty wild and into pot and booze when off duty. Needless to say, strippers and hookers are usually welcome as well.

Re: playing with cops
ask to play with their handcuffs?

However, just like any other home game where you're new, lay low for a while until you know what's acceptable and what's not. Ask the host what to bring, if there's any entertainment, etc. Basically, treat this home game like any other home game. |

[/ QUOTE ] I was uninvited from a home game for "attitude/demeanor". I thought for a time it was a class war thing (long story short - I'm from a college town. this was one of Dallas' more affluent suburbs), but played in another tourney in roughly the same area and those guys didn't have a problem with me. A bit younger and relatively "hipper" (more the fratboy type). Then again, it's Texas, free thinking is generally not a desirable trait amongst certain groups anyway... I'm quite happy with my home game now. Fun people and we all like each other to some degree. A little bit in-jokey, but new people are welcome if they can hang with a bit of the ballbusting. Well, and the occasional "You [censored]!" when they river me. (I was not doing this at that game.) |
Re: playing with cops
Wait.. I saw this movie.. They'll catch you with a hanger.

Re: playing with cops
I play in a game with an ATF agent, a couple of sherrifs, K-9 police officer, and a prosecutor. Game is very loose and crazy, but there is always a lot of money at the game and I never worry about someone coming to rob us, especially with the 2 big K-9's laying at our feet. I have an uncle that's a cop, pretty high up too. Apparently he hosts 100+ people tournaments at his house.

Re: playing with cops
This thread is the best road/rogue game/gang confusion thread. Here is the script: Rounders Script
I cannot confirm the accuracy of this script; however, usually they are pretty accurate. Normally, I use scriptcrawler, but Rounders was not on there. It seems multiple combinations make sense/could apply.... Anyway, see dialogue below: - Yeah, everybody ready? Fourth Street. - Yes, sir. Raise you. - I'm in. - Wow. Wow. A lot of action. A lot of action. - I got the flush. - Show me. What you got in here? - Jesus. Who wants more? - I'm in. - I'm in. - Come on, come on. I'm staging a late-night comeback here. Late-night rally. Okay? Just to... Just to warn you. Ace high bets. Uh, ace checks. - Check. - Check on an ace. All right. I'll check. - Check. - Check. All right, free card. Here we go. - Hold on there a [censored] second. - Easy. What are you doing? - Give me the deck. - Relax, man. Don't get so agitated. - [Vitter] Looks like we got a road gang here. - [Worm] A what? - What are you... What? - What the hell's going on over here, Stu? This son of a bitch is base dealing. - Caught a hanger, Sarge. - What? A hanger? I don't even know what you're saying. - He's saying you're dealing off the bottom of the deck. - Oh, God. Come on, guys. - What did he give him? - To me? - Seven of hearts. - You boys professionals? You working? I was winning before this guy got here. Okay, okay. Let's let the cards do the talking. If the seven didn't help you, we'll listen to what you have to say. Ozzy, turn the cards. |

I win!
Where's my prize? I know- Sir Folds, budblown and postoak all must be my lackeys! Put on the dog collars, you mutts! |
Re: playing with cops
I'm sure somebody could just queue up the DVD with captioning... tho' not that those are always accurate, either.

Re: playing with cops
Anyone who is paranoid about playing with the fuzz has apparently lived a fairly sheltered existence. As rottersod pointed out, these guys are among the biggest minor lawbreakers you'll find, probably because they know they'll get away with it.
A bunch of years ago I was at a house party where there were a couple of FBI agents in attendance. Then I noticed that a few people were doing coke in a walk-in closet. At the time I thought that was a bit risky, now I realize that not only did the FBI guy probably not give a crap, he was just as likely to be in there as anyone... |

Re: playing with cops
Offering up my opinion on the GENERAL personality and therefore playing style of police officers:
In general, police officers are of the same PERSONALITY TYPE as criminals (aggressive, prone to violence or at least not opposed to it, alpha male). I am not saying that police officers are similar to criminals in their MORALS, merely their personality style. Therefore, my prediction would be that the average game full of cops would be more loose-aggressive than the average game full of the rest of us. Advice: TAG it up, let opponents do the betting for you when you have a hand. Hope you get this before the game, good skills (don't believe in luck)! Edit: Remember in Rounders when Mike says that the nicer the guy, the poorer the poker player and that they "despite being cops, are real sweethearts." In most cases this will NOT be true, and they will be aggressive, alpha males trying to dominate you in the game. |
