The Well: Lefort

[ QUOTE ]
A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well and his guide says "On any day except Tuesday, you can shout any question down that well and you'll be told the answer" .

The man seems pretty impressed, and so he shouts down: Why not on Tuesday? and the voice from in the well shouts back: Because on Tuesday, it’s your day in the well .

[/ QUOTE ]

It's my 1000th post, and I wanted to do something "special". So here we go. Question anything reasonable, from why I 3bet fat girls, to why I check-raise bluff skinny ones. I'll answer anything reasonable.

P.S. I'm currently drunk so anything unreasonable asked tonight will have a better chance of getting answered than any other time.

P.S.S. I'm liable to pass out at any time, so I'll probably end up answering stuff tomorrow.

P.S.S.S. Yes, I am that good looking.

Fav mod? I don't really pay attention to mods, but I do know ahnuld's name is green so that must mean he's a mod, and I met him in Vegas and he was a cool dude. That plus he's Canadian, so I guess he's my favorite.

Poker story hmmm... I think my best poker story is probably this summer when I was in Vegas for the WSOP. I had some friends come to visit and we played a fun $1/$2 game at the Mihage. (Mirage... but we for some reason were calling it "Meee-hage" after about a dozen doubles each). I was running sick good with a stack of like $1800 (max buyin $200, and for everyone else at the table this was significant stakes, so the game wasn't exactly stupid..) So one of my friends in particular I'd beaten up on a few times for stacks. He was fairly drunk and convinced he couldn't beat me. This particular hand, I pick up KK UTG. I limp, couple limpers, folds to him on the button and he raises, I call, all else fold. Flop is K63r. I check he bets I call. Turn is a Q. I check. He shows a Q, and announces to the table "I [censored] hate poker" and mucks. Thats right, there were no bets on the turn, and he mucked. I showed KK for top set, and the whole table went nuts. Pretty funny stuff.

Not that much, like ~8 shots of rye in 50/50 mixed drinks. After 4.5 years of university I've become pretty alcohol tolerant so it takes a good a dozen shots or beers before I do some real belligerent things...

Oh, and I'll take you up on that challenge if I ever get some "free poker time". Any time I'm not socializing or "learning", I tend to devote to "real" grinding to get my monthly hands in. But I'll try..

[ QUOTE ]

what stakes do you currently play and how aggressively did you manage your bankroll to get to that level?

[/ QUOTE ]

Currently play most 5/10, some 10/20. This summer played mostly 10/20 and 25/50. Realized I'd rather play games I can beat significantly than just games I am rolled for and have an edge in.

To be honest I don't have all that much as far as tips for SSNLers go. If you have the potential to move up, you will. I think its that simple. You'll figure it out..

CR-bluffing against CBets is something I deem "unreasonable content" and so I won't divulge into it much at all. But lets just say that some players CB too much, and you need to counter it by CR-bluffing more against these players. You can figure out the who/when/where part...

The bankroll growth part for me is somewhat of a stupid story. I started out a couple summers ago playing mostly MTTs. I'd won a couple for ~$10k each and thought I was king of the world/pocketfives. After playing MTTs all summer and prospering, I didn't play much while at school until the following summer. At this point I took out a chunk of money and left in $12k to play 5/10nl.. (Dear BR-Management.... hello?) I'd not played much NL ring at all.. so obviously I went on a $25,000 run. I still to this day can't fathom how well I must have run considering I had very little knowledge of the game, no HUD, and no reads. Yet I won that amount, took it out (left myself with $10k again) and bought a car. Went back to school, and depleted the $10k roll to $200 by Christmas. I still remember the day during exams in early December when I had $200 in my account on UB left to my name. I'd vowed to myself long ago that I would never deposit another dollar into poker again after I'd withdrew my initial $50 deposit, so that was not an option. I considered playing one last $100+9 tourney and donking off the last bit in cash games, but instead I waited til I got home for Xmas and started playing $5 SNGs again to build it back up. On Xmas eve, I won the $10r on Stars for $10k+. From there I started playing 2/4 (yeah, still obviously underrolled but thats just how I "roll"..) and never looked back. It was at this point that I started reading a ton of 2p2 (this is like June '06) and before I knew it I had a roll of $30k and was playing 3/6. Then by October of '06 I had a roll of ~$120k and had started dabbling into 10/20. Then, the WCOOP main event. The night before, I'd had my biggest ever cash game win with a nightly tally of +$12k. The next day I'd promised to take my college housemates out for dinner, but when I realized it was the $2500 main event, I had to apologize and push the date back because I really wanted to play. I msg'd my buddy deerok and he shipped me the buyin on Stars for Paradise $. Early on I had my KK run over AA, and there was no stopping me after that. Eventually went on to chop for $418k. I withdrew ~$400k of this because I felt like any less and I'd be "cheating" if I used it for my "cash game" roll. So I went on to play 10/20 and 25/50 for the following year including spending 5 weeks in Vegas for the WSOP. After a couple months off, I'd taken out most of my roll for business ventures and left myself with a suitable 5/10 roll and started playing again in October. I've somehow managed to somewhat re-fall in love with game and have spent a great deal of time this past month evaluating strategy. I'm back to grinding and it feels good.

[/ QUOTE ]

Biggest downswing is tough. I brought ~$100k to Vegas and came home with ~$40k after running horribly in both live cash and tournaments, and also was down online during the time. So I think its safe to say I've had a 6 figure downswing from some point to point.

Sickest call and sickest hand are probably the same. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showfl...ue#Post10089143
Just an interesting hand against a laggy player for deep stacks.

Another interesting one was live in Vegas in a superdeep $2/$5nl game at the Wynn with a bunch of 2p2ers (fslexduck, cts, djsensei, jfish, jsnipes, that I can remember...) Cole was absolutely hammered, stupidly overrolled, and having a good time. I had the seat to his immediate left and was trying to take advantage. I can't remember the hand exactly but I'll try.. He raises from MP, I 3bet 76ss, folds to him, he calls. Flop is 653r. He checks, I bet, he raises, I call. Turn is an 8. He bets, I call. River is an A. He bets (and at this point its like a $2000 bet and easily the biggest game in the room so everyone is gathered round as they await my decision..), I eventually call. Cole says "good call dude" as he flips over his air. I proudly table my 3rd pair. Oh wait... Cole's air is Q8dd... he turned a pair and didn't know. He was bluffing with the best hand... [censored] runs so good...

Errrr biggest pot is tough. Probably just felting or being felted at Prima 50/100 at some point as I played it a bit but didn't have very significant results in either direction.

Wow, this is a very intense subject for me. I'm well known amongst my buddies as the guy that hates blowjobs, so its pretty wild that you asked this. I mean, I'd obviously rather have a bj than a kick in the face... but if the girl is willing to stoop to putting her facial lips on your penis, it only makes sense that you're at the point where she can put her groinal lips on it too..

Maybe after nailing a bird a dozen times its nice to get a bj from time to time... but against a random, spread ur legs bitch..

[/ QUOTE ]

Hangover isn't bad. I drink a ton of water both while I'm boozing, before bed, and when I wake up.

As for winrates, I don't really "believe" in them. There are way too many changing variables as you "accumulate" a seemingly converged winrate. If I 1-tabled 5/10 by finding the best table at any time, I'm sure I could run at 8+pt. If I 12-tabled with no table selection, I'd probably have trouble cracking 2pt. This is especially true for 25/50 where there are definitely times where without table selection, I could conceivably be a dog. And for 1/2... I've never really played it to be honest, so I'm not sure. I'd probably run at like -2pt there because nobody would fold to my bruffs...

I will never ever ever consider myself a professional poker player. It's the only form of income I've had for the past 4 years during university, but I'd rather consider myself a student than a pro poker player. Once I'm done school in April, I'm starting a real estate investing company. But even if I didn't have such plans, I'd STILL consider myself an academic as I try to use the oodles of spare time that poker lends to learn. I think alot of people don't take advantage of some of the advantages that making money off of poker can give.

Thanks about the blog. I'll try to continue updating a couple times a week now that I'm grinding again. http://lefort.livejournal.com

[/ QUOTE ]

Borderline unreasonable so I'll answer it loosely. 10/20 is definitely quite significantly tougher than 5/10 on all sites. For me, a great table is 2+ donks with VPIPs 30+. Mediocre table is just a single donk, or no true donks but a couple "bad regulars". 0 EV table would be one with 5 solid regulars and I'm 6-8 tabling so I don't have the opportunity to really focus on that table and get strong reads on thinking players.

Won't say what sites I play on, but I will say that diversifying your bankroll over multiple sites is a good idea. Some sites are better at different times and this lets you be profitable whenever you choose to play. But I won't list off the sites and their "prime times"... no easy baskets.. Life tip, thats a fun one... My tip would be, "go do it!" Whatever it is you've been considering doing the past few weeks/months/years, whether it be something big like travel the world or get a new job, or something smaller like ask a girl out or color your hair, do it. You live life once, to look back and say "I wish" would be a travesty.
