Dealer shafts me, whats my play?

Nittish Old Guy UTG limps, someone in MP raises to 5, four callers.

I call in BB w/ A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], UTG calls.

Flop is A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. I check, UTG bets 15. I'd sat at this table for an hour or so, and and a pretty good read that UTG had an ace here. He would definitely have raised AK, but AQ and certainly A7 are in his range. But so is every other Ax combination, so I'm crushing his range.

It folds around fairly quickly. When the action gets to me, I look down and min-raise (lol live play) in less than 10 seconds. When I look up, I see that the dealer has mucked the flop, and begun to start pushing the pot to UTG. I holler, and stop the dealer. Both UTG and myself still have our hole cards. The stub appears to be retrievable, but it's really a mess.

(FWIW, I really did not take longer than 10 seconds with the raise, nor was I wearing a hood over my head. My cards were legally displayed, albeit w/ a chip or 2 over them.)

At this point my raise is out on the felt, and there's no mistaking that I have a strong hand. Somebody starts calling for the floor, but I'm guessing any reasonable floor is going to order the pot chopped, and I feel entitled to the pot. I quickly make my case, and of course the rest of the table is griping about how the dealer needs to pay more attention, blah blah.

In the mess, before the floor arrived, UTG actually pushed his cards to the dealer. The dealer TURBO-MUCKED them, and pushed the pot to me, with about 10 seconds to spare before a floorperson came over.

Is this the best possible outcome of a crappy situation? IMO, I would've been able to hustle ~100 out of UTG, and possibly stack him for his 200 had the hand played out.

WTF is wrong with you. You're bitching about getting a pot that was not rightfully yours. If the dealer mucked the flop when both hands were still live you have no more right to the pot then the old nit does. Then the dealer [censored] up by pushing it to you before the floor comes and you are whining. Unreal.

I also don't understand how you can not see that the dealer is mucking the flop even if you are looking down at your chips. Unless you're wearing a hoodie and sunglasses.

I just think you have to roll with the punches. I assume this hand happened recently, during all the tournament craziness. There are many new dealers and some of them are horrible.

The player shouldn't have to do this, but if you identify a new dealer, prone to mistakes, keep an eye on them. At the first sign of dealer retardedness, just yell at them stop!!! Then explain yr case. That's about all you can do.

And eventually, all dealers, even expert ones, will make mistakes. In the last few weeks alone, I've seen two different occurrences of putting the stub into the muck after the turn.

This ordinary stuff happens all the time. In the end, I don't think this one hand will have a severe impact on yr overall score. Just sorry it cost you a good pot.

I think the end result was the best you could hope for. You got the pot, albeit a much smaller than expected pot. These dealer mistakes really suck since you probably gave yr hand strength away when you had to yell at the sleepy dealer.

Actually, it's kind of a nice change of pace to see a Foxwoods dealer trying so hard to maximize h/hr.

in your opinion you would have been able to get more money from the player? Why do you think he mucked his cards? Because he thought he had a winner.

He was going to muck to your raise anyway and he figured he would avoid the hassle. If he really thought he was good he would have been thiunking like you were, that he was about to get shafted out of half the pot.

The dealer did the right thing by mucking the hand before the floor coming. This wasn't a mistake, the player gave up his hand was basically saying I was going to fold to his raise --- no need for a floor call lets move on.

This reminds me of a floor call I had month or two ago (I think I posted it here then). I get called to the table because the dealer is trying to push the pot to an all-in player and the other player is yelling "I called, it's a split." Since everyone saw what cards the players had I told him "ok, you turned your hand face up and claim you called, that is a call" Now he is furious that he doesn't get half the pot and now argues for his money back. Apparently at some other casino(s) in town if the dealer pulls the cards in together they split the pot instead of giving each player back their cards.

When I have AJ, there are two more Aces on the board, and my opponent is trying to fold to my minraise, I always put them on a weaker Ace.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he felt that his opponent did have a weak Ace that might have paid him off, but his reaction to the dealer's mistake, not his clever min-check-raise, convinced the opponent to fold.

Isn't it obvious that the dealer's "innocent" brain freeze was in fact a malicious attempt to cheat OP out of a monster pot to which he was "entitled?" [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

For the floor people around here, I'm curious how you would've resolved the situation if you had shown up, action was still on UTG, and he had not relinquished his hand. I've seen floor people at Foxwoods deal with similar situations in a variety of creative ways recently...

I'd get over the entitlement at this point. The UTG still has options. You're not entitled to anything at this point.

Well, there you go. Situation seems to have resolved iteslf. If UTG had anything, he'd have held onto his cards.

I simply cannot imagine how this is possible. No one has been able to explain it to me.

What happens during those "ten seconds"? Do you black out? Do you close your eyes? Do you focus so intently upon your chips, that you develop tunnel vision?

It takes you ten seconds to grab six red chips? If my chips were ROLLING, I could casually pick up six of them and bet them in far less than ten seconds.

One last thing: the situation that you describe doesn't happen to me often when I'm dealing--but every time that it does, it's because the blacked out/eyes closed/chip gathering/tunnel vision player IS CONCEALING HIS CARDS WITH HIS HANDS, and it looks like the bettor is the only player remaining.
