When discussing \"Best show on tv\", how come nobody ever mentions...

...Real Time with Bill Maher?

It's smart, it's funny, it's topical, it's smart...

Oh, never mind, I just answered my own question.

Too bad. These last two episodes (Gen Clark this week, Gary Kasparov last week) were gold. If you have HBO OnDemand available, I recommend you check out at least these two eps.

We love Bill Maher! He's better than John Stewart and Colbert. Much wittier. Not sure this required it's own thread.

However, as far as I'm concerned one of the best shows on TV right now is Brothers & Sisters on ABC. Watch it people. It's got some of the best acting on TV with very relatable characters. (I happen to like the gay brother )

I watch Real Time every week, but I must admit I fast forward through the monologue. Its exactly what I always wished Politically Incorrect would become.

I dig Bill Maher, but this is a topic that is tough for me to discuss, because the absolute and total winner is The Wire. To add, ad nauseum, if you've never seen it, you simply must.

Sorry, being in the UK, I never heard of this.

However, if you're talking about good TV shows that no one ever seems to mention, anyone remember 'Bizarre' with John Byner (sp?) and Super Dave Osbourne?

The show is surprisingly good. I like the illegitimate daughter VVVV much.
Damages was pretty good on FX. House & La Ink too.
Bill Maher needs 2 be back on ABC or Comedy Central

Right- because the show would be much better with censoring and commercials.

I think Bill Maher stinks. I'll take Jon Stewart or Colbert over him any dayyyy.

I like Bill Maher but it is really easy to understand why people loathe him. He has some cool guests though and I think he is reasonably funny, if repetitive.

The bit with the 9/11 conspirators interrupting his panel talk was quite lol.

You like the illegitimate daughter huh. She confuses me. Is she good, is she bad? Can we trust her? I think her bangs were a big mistake. She doesn't look very good in bangs Orlando.

I'm hating Joe right now, very very much.

I think the show is pretty good. I just hate Bill Maher so much. I know that sounds stupid that I can hate him and like his show.

I just think he's such a smug [censored]. I would like to punch him in the stomach.

lol. So you think he's smug eh.

I get that smugness vibe from Maher, too. Stewart is smart in an inquisitive way, but Maher (at least lately) is just set in his ideas and pounds on them repeatedly. Sometimes I agree with him and sometimes I don't, but either way I just can't watch.

An acquaintance told me this at a cocktail party. Sure enough, I went to On Demand to see the latest Dexter ep. It wasn't available, so I happened on the entire season two of the Wire. I watched all 13 episodes consecutively. I woke up the next morning an my eyes were burning. It was way worth it.

I was a huge fan of Homicide and somehow, the Wire missed me completely.

I see that seasons 3 and 4 will be available on demand later this month. I can't wait.

The show can be funny and I like that Maher is not afraid to piss on parades. At the same time, for someone who is supposed to be very smart and whose job is current events, he is remarkably uneducated on many of the issues addressed on his show.
