Cherokee Casino Regulars

I'll be there the weekend of the 9th to play one of the Scotty Nguyen events, and I'm curious about the cash games that are normally spread there? What games and limits are typically available? Also, what is the competition like for these (e.g., 1/2 NL = soft, but 2/5 NL = nitty, etc.)? Thanks.

Re: Cherokee Casino Regulars

I'll be playing in many of these as well Lucere. During tournaments there will be umpteen 1/2 games most with terrible players. Should be three or four 2/5 games that play pretty loose but aggressive. Without a major tourney we only ocassionally get a 5/10 NL holdem game going and when it does it can be tough or not, depends if the P/L Omaha players are in the holdem game or not, when they are it is juicy, after their Omaha game starts it either breaks or becomes uber tight. Should be easy to get 5/10 going during most of November.

Re: Cherokee Casino Regulars

Is it limited to HE and PLO games usually? What about stud variants or LO8?

Jimbo 10-30-2007 04:42 PM

Re: Cherokee Casino Regulars

Ohama8 usually only limit, 10/20 with 1/2 o a full Kill. Stud normally is on one able 1 to 5 limit no idea if i will be better during he tourney. Assuming some guy frm Jersey show up I imagine a stud game will happen The floor will spread any game you want as long as they have a dealer available.

Am on my way there right now, see you in a couple of weeks Are you stayig at the casino hotel? If so be sure to get a players card before you check-in and get the players automatic discount. Also you earn 75 cents an hour in comps for poker time on the clock.

Re: Cherokee Casino Regulars

I'm staying at the casino inn there. I think they already had to create a players card for me when I registered for the tourney.

Gonna be in the house Saturday night probably (playing in the HORSE). Would love to play mixed. Would prefer E to S and 10/20 is way nosebleed for my bankroll. Anyone interested?

I will be there starting this weekend quite frequently playing many tournaments as well as the biggest NL game that gets going... And maybe some PLO also...

You mean Sunday night (the 11th) for the HORSE tourney, right?

I'm interested in getting any kind of stud game going. I'd prefer the 3-6 range myself. [img]/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img]

They'll have a 1-5 spread stud game running...

Re: Cherokee Casino Regulars

I will be there a lot this November. In my experience their cash games are much juicier during tournament time, especially the biggest games that they spread (normally 5/10 NL or PLO). Actually they will probably have 5/10/25 PLO also, at least when it gets closer to time for the main event.

3/6 is more my speed bankroll wise too... I would love to play some live Stud 8. And no, I mean Saturday. Sunday I'll be busy playing in the tourney (*finger cross*).

I see what you meant now. I'm definitely down for playing some stud on Saturday. I should be there sometime Friday night too.

Jimbo 10-31-2007 04:26 PM

Re: Cherokee Casino Regulars

For anyone that will be there on Saturday be sure to go to the players club booth and have them swipe your players card. They will randomly add money to players' accounts, one person will get $250,000 if they show up and swipe their card.

Re: Cherokee Casino Regulars

should be a good time, last 1 they had a couple of months ago was alot of fun. i think they ran up to 10/25nl @ times & also a strong 2-5 omaha that was over stacked, played like a 5-10. they also had other games at all over the spectrum, i enjoyed the 1-2 omaha last visit....

with 2 tournys a day, the cash games wern't over the top like @ coushatta during their big events, but a strong game was always on!

the tournys were spectacular last time...huge prize pools for the buy ins...50k 1st place for the $230 buy in..it was great..plus 45 mn blinds & 4k starting stacks..

Any chance of a local getting his hands on the HORSE tourney's structure sheet and posting the details?

Hate to say it since I am a local, a regular and support the floor personell and the dealers in this fine room, BUT, I'm not sure they will even know the structure yet. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] However after the market closes today I will head down there to play in the 6PM Jack and Jill tourney and ask for you. Will post back after my return or tomorrow morning if I get the info.

Re: Cherokee Casino Regulars

Here is the lowdown on the HORSE tourney:

Code:

Levels Games Low Card Antes Blinds Limits
1 Holdem 0

Hell forget it, way too much typing for a chart lol

Holdem starts at 10/20 blinds with 20/40 limit
Omaha8 starts at the same
Razz starts at 5 ante 10 Low card 30 complete 30/60 limit
Stud starts at 5 ante 10 Low card 30 complete 30/60 limit
stud hi/lo starts at 5 ante 10 low card 30 complete 30/60 limit

12 minute rounds $330 buy-in starting chips of 4000

Limits go from 20/40 to 30/60 to 40/80 to 60/120 to 80/160 to 100/200 to 150/300 to 200/400

Hope this is enough info.

Jimbo

PS: The room no longer offers 75 cents per hour comps, just found out they now comp you on a complex formula seemingly based on amount of play, level of play, level of tipping, level of player nittiness, time of the day and mood of the floor on duty. Still not bad for regulars but the casual player may not get as much as before.

Re: Cherokee Casino Regulars

The PL and 2-5 and up NL games have unlimited by ins. 1-2 NL is $200 max. During the last SNPC they got a Razz game going, I think it was 5-10. During the main event, I have seen 100-200 Triple Draw and Chinese poker.

The evening tournaments start at 6:00 and usually take up all the tables at the beginning and they clear the cash game list at that time. If you want to play cash, it is a good idea to show up right after 6 and sign up, then go to dinner and come back when the tournament field has thinned out.

The best parking is behind the casino. As you exit I244, go past the casino and turn left at the light by the Wendy's. There is a canopied walkway thru the middle of the parking lot that leads to a door that is right by the poker room.

I was there till 1 AM this morning and cash games were running the entire time of the tournament (as well as before). There were 305 couples entered in the Jack and Jill yet both the tourney and all the cash games flowed very smoothly. There were 4 2/5 NL holdem games, 2 5/10's, plenty of Omaha games at various limits and saw a list for chinese poker at 5:30 PM, not sure if it got started, not to mention 1/2 NL holdem games everywhere.

You are right that they clear the list at 6:05 PM but if you are at a table (particularly 2/5 or higher) they have hired enough dealers they weren't breaking tables so if seated you got to keep playing. Personally I thought clearing the list 5 minutes after the tourney begins is brilliant, it keeps the cash games clean and full without calling out names of people sitting in the 6PM tournament.

Also if you are in a cash game and want to play a 1 table satellite ($45's, $85's and $125's ran last night) you must pickup. You get 45 minutes for a meal break before being picked up but will go to the top of the list if you get picked up and are running a bit late from dinner.

How low is Omaha 8 going right now? If we can't get wacky games going, that's what I'd prefer to play.

Yesterday's tournaments were 30 minute rounds, except for me, my queens ran into kings but an ace flopped so I didn't go broke that hand, three hands later against the same player, my kings run into his aces, bye bye Jimbo. Hey JP, are you gonna be there tonight? Do you wear an OSU hat or some other identifier? I'd like to meet you.

I agree, each round of HORSE is one hour. Twelve minutes per each game but the blinds only go up once an hour in relation to the specific game being dealt at that time.

I'm new to this forum. Dallas resident. Went to Cherokee this weekend, so I figured why not make this thread my first post.

We went Friday night to play cash games, and then run the 11am tournament on Saturday.

Here is what they had ... Holdem : 1/2, 2/5, 5/10 NL. 4/8 Limit .... Omaha : 1/2/5 and 5/10/25 PLO. 4/8 and 10/20 H/L.

I played the 5/10 NL Friday night, and the 5/10/25 PLO Saturday afternoon. Both were ok imo, but not as good as I'm sure they will be when it gets closer to the main event.

I was in the 7 seat. Blue Mizuno golf hat.

I remember seeing you and actually thinking, "I wonder if he is on 2+2", becuase I have been lurking here for a while.

Pretty good game I thought. I saw that hand .. PLO = sick.

Anyone have any recommends on places to eat in the area? No, not Wendy's, I like to eat quality food. The steak restaurant inside the casino struck me as overpriced/underwhelming last time I was in town.

Also, cigar stores - The Humidor is no longer allowed to have smoking in the store. I found two others nearby (one a pipe shop?). Anyone know if they can have smoking in store?

If you mean near but not right next to the casino nothing I know of except Molly's Landing but then if you didn't like eating at McGills there may be no hope for you without a 4 hour drive to Dallas.
