stacking off for 125bb w/ 3rd pair?

Villian is BigTic for those familiar w/ him. He has decent preflop stats 26/20 or somewhere there abouts, but is a total aggro monkey from time to time....

Poker Stars, $2/$4 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 5 Players
LegoPoker Hand History Converter

Hero (BTN): $972
SB: $262
BB: $394
UTG: $757.50
CO: $502.30

Pre-Flop: 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] dealt to Hero (BTN)
UTG folds, CO raises to $12, Hero calls $12, 2 folds

Flop: ($30) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players)
CO checks, Hero bets $20, CO raises to $60, Hero calls $40

Turn: ($150) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players)
CO bets $128, Hero calls $128

River: ($406) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players)
CO bets $302.30 and is All-In

Given his line he's repping basically 99, 77 or maybe AA here, so this has to be a call, right?

i dont agree big jim, i think villains flop c/r is super weird on this board.

he's not taking this line with an overpair imo and there arent many set possibilities. i vote for call.

Big_Jim 10-30-2007 03:40 AM

Re: stacking off for 125bb w/ 3rd pair?

Just showing you that his range can be quite a bit wider, he's CO, and might even be opening 8To here, which nearly doubles the combos that you're behind.

I really don't see flop check/raises often enough to assign a good default range, but when people play a hand weird, especially on the flop, I think you have to include the nut draw in there somewhere.

The better he is, the less often you should call this

I hate these statements so much.

As for the hand I can go either way.

Thoughts on shoving the turn?

TomChan 10-30-2007 08:55 AM

Re: stacking off for 125bb w/ 3rd pair?

ye shoving the turn seems interesting here as he might even fold overpair

why do you guys think this flop c/r cannot be an OP?
i think its pretty interesting OP line, inducing a potcommitting reraise by any sort of draw

wow, after seeing what hero did im mystified as to responses. You might be drawing dead as played on turn fold..

At the time I did almost shove the turn, but something just felt right about the hand and it felt like he was bluffing and I decided on the turn that I was calling a shove on all rivers. Basically what I'm saying is that I was slowplaying my pair if 6's, lol.

How light are you willing to call here? My hand is basically A high, so are you calling here w/ A hi, what about K hi?

wouldnt it be the opposite? a better player would be more likely to bluff in my mind, while a worse player would go for the donk check raise with an overpair on the flop, then bet the whole way down

Not at all. A good player realizes his line looks really bluffy. A really good player is taking this line w his huge hands sometimes

BobboFitos 10-30-2007 04:42 PM

Re: stacking off for 125bb w/ 3rd pair?

i think turn call > turn raise. if villain took this line with a better hand he's not dumping it on the turn. also, most people should know that the obvious play w/ a set is to just call the turn so if villain is bluffing they can bluff all in....

also, it sets you up to snap off a bluff w/ hero's pair. if hero did not have a pair a turn shove would have more merit.

AAismyfriend 10-30-2007 04:55 PM

Re: stacking off for 125bb w/ 3rd pair?

Definitely agree that calling>>>>raising the turn. Given he's an aggro spewmonkey sometimes, and you called the turn, you should be calling this river.
