BBV in MTT - Closed On a House Today (Totally Not Even Close to OT)

Brag: Bought a house in cash today, no mortgage for a 24 yr old, woo!
Beat: The inside of it currently looks like downtown Troy, NY (it needs some work)
Variance: It just so happens to be directly next to my brother's house, Rollo poker compound?

I will add that with the Sox win and USF loss (Go BC) last night I am a pretty happy dude today.

Hmmm. We bought a house on Monday, moving a week from today. 3300 Square feet, not including 1100 sq foot, unfinished basement (or future poker palace, depending on your point of view). Also sprung for a 57 inch High Def TV for the Bonus room.

So I'm stoked.

Also mortgaged up to my eyeballs...

'grats, Justin - only a few better feelings than sleeping in your own place for the first time. (That's coming from somebody who shares ownership with a bank... Must be awesome to know it's 'all yours').

You gonna do a Barry Greensteinesque video tour?

OT

Well I am planning to video journal the entire renovation process along the way and post it to my blog as well as probably starting a thread in EDF and explaining the budgeting issues I run into, etc, etc. The current plan is to stay there till the market turns enough to sell it and then do this again. So looking forward to the whole process, demo starts monday.

Sweet, but I'd just like to add to this forum that just because your 24 and can buy your own baller house out in the middle of nowhere, leaving all your friends behind, doesn't mean you should.

just a Q - why would you buy in cash rather than having a mortgage? like my interest rate was 6% and i earn far more than that on my money i have invested, so it seems sort of silly to me...

I can't speak for Justin, but I'm a huge nit and am happy that even if my investments go completely to hell, I have a super nice house that I don't need to worry about.

I know that sweetie. Sorry I didn't include you but I congratulated you before I thought. You all have so much to be proud about. Not just the money you've made through your own hard work and intelligence, but the manner in which you've conducted yourselves after becoming rich young studs.

Congrats again to you all. You are great role models to the poker community.

Re: BBV in MTT - Closed On a House Today (Totally Not Even Close to OT

Paying cash for a house is not very smart...1st of all all the interest is tax deductable (talking in the US obv..no idea for Canada)...since you will obv be paying some taxes the interest is "free" money...you can earn 10% on your money in the market fairly easy. So assume 10% return and 6% interest rate on loan and you are throwing away $80,000 per year on a $500,000 house....
