This is nothing, he's worth 10x that amount. One of Texas largest bookmakers, allegedly.

my favorite part is in the comments where someone mentions that forfeiting 2+ million is a minor setback for a poker player

Re: Richard Lee forfeits most of his WSOP winnings!

He tried to say the 2.5 Mil in cash that they found at his house was from the WSOP. Right, cuz that's what you do with 2.5 Mil, just keep it in a shoebox. Obviously this 2.5 mil is to pay out, if needed, some very heavy action.

Yep, it's legal. On paper, it will go down as a guilty plea and a fine or seizure. Fruits of illegal enterprise can be legally seized. That is one of the most common ways of funding DARE programs.

Comments like this are dumb.

The guy was stating that Lee didn't win the WSOP -- a true fact. Weather that guy has cashed higher or not is completely irrelevant.

No your comment is dumb. The guy was not stating that Lee didn't win the WSOP. He said "seems like he should work on winning his first poker tournament". I'll be willing to wager that Lee has won a lot of Poker Tourneys.

So my retort to the guy was like wtf you talking about, of course the guy has won tourneys and why are you acting so high and mighty when I'm sure you can't top a $2 million dollar cash.

Btw, the "weather" here this morning was very foggy.

It's my understanding, from what I read, that he is forfeiting the 2.2 million that was seized in January from the gambling operation. I don't believe any of this is the money that he won from that tournament. If this is true he got off pretty easy, in my opinion.

I agree about him getting off easy. I'm not saying that I think he deserved more, but just that he could have gotten it a lot worse than profit seizure.

I disagree. Context suggests Lee was referring to his cash as a win and he needs to do it again in another tourney. Don't take it so literal when it's so obvious.

And speaking of high and mighty, my apologies that I misspelled a word, please forgive me.

Toro 10-18-2007 10:56 PM

Re: Richard Lee forfeits most of his WSOP winnings!

That cash in the wsop is a win, but if you literally read what he said he never mentioned wsop, just have to go out and win another tourney.

But we are splitting hairs. Should he have said I'll have to go out and get another 6th place cash at the wsop? Of course not, what he said was completely natural and it was juvenile to mock him for it. So i mocked the guy who said it because wtf are his credentials to mock a wsop final tabler who played very good poker?

Understandable I suppose, just out of context for 2p2. Mocking is done whether it's deserved or not and I didn't see why that one was singled out since it was funny.

Oh well, difference of opinion I guess imo.

yea this seems like a legal form of bribery to me too, and it seems like he got off easy. hearing about this would not be a deterrent to starting an illegal bookmaking operation at all.

If this was a drug dealer, would it bother you that they took his money? If you do something illegal, you cannot profit. Any money you get from illegal enterprise, can be confiscated.

The difference is after they bust a drug dealer and take his money, they then dont go "ok, you are free to go!"
