Help needed on a hand

The game is $1-$2 nlhe with a $100 max buy in. I sat with $100 and this is the first hand dealt to me although I have been observing the table for 10 minutes prior. I am also a regular at this particular casino and am very familiar with the EP limper. Im on the button with the 5h9h and limp in after 1 EP and 2 MP limpers. The big blind checks his option. The flop comes out 5s 5c 6s and it checks to the EP who bets $7 it gets folded to me and I call because I know this particular player is tricky but tight preflop and most likely was slow playing a big pair. I know that he is capable of laying down AA-KK in this spot facing a raise so I figure that the best way to get money in the pot is to let him take the betting lead. The big blind them surprises me by check raising to $20 and the EP limper calls. The big blind was an inexperienced player and I was certain that he also had a 5. I also knew that the EP limper had either AA-QQ or a flush draw. Not wanting the EP player to draw, I knew that my option were to fold or raise. Being that he was the big blind he could have any kicker to his 5 (I am certain he would have played any 5 this way and would not lay it down no matter if he had a 2 kicker). I quickly figured that there were exactly 5 hands that he could have that I could beat and 5 that i couldn't, thus since the pot was big enough to make it correct to take a coin flip I pushed (it is an overbet but I knew that once I committed myself here I was never going to get away from the hand). The big blind calls and the EP player folded AA face up. BB had A5 and no miracle happened for me.

*Note: It is my style and norm to limp with hands such as the 59s in this particular situation. I know many will criticize that as the reason I lost this hand, but please try to overlook that. I am a winning player at the stakes I play and have no plans to change my preflop play. If this is simply a circumstance of me playing this style then I can live with that. I'm more interested in seeing if anyone sees flaws in my postflop play.

You aren't a winning player because you have an ownage style. People live are just so so bad that your leaks are made up for by people who don't know the hand rankings. With 50 bb there is no real reason to play hands like 59.

Calpoly, this is the mash? I didn't know they had 1-2 100 buy in now...

Anyways do I know who you are? I'm a mexican kid that sometimes comes in there and plays the 3-5 game with a tatoo on my neck. They call me esko

Re: Help needed on a hand

if the BB is inexperienced there are better spots to take his money. I'd also agree with 9-5s not being a good hand to play with the relatively small stack sizes described

This was not at the Chumash although I do play there regularly

Oh and Cal Poly dropped SIXTY THREE POINTS on Davis this weekend, that was pretty sweet. It's too bad everyone I know up there is in law school and thus don't really care about Davis football; this is a huge [censored]-talking opportunity that is being massively wasted

I was careful to state that I am a winning player at these stakes. I know that my game has holes, including that I probably play too many hands preflop. However, I am not a pro nor aspiring to be and honestly, I can't help myself but play too many hands.

Haha well unlike your law school friends I do care about football but honestly I'm a bigger USC Trojan fan than Cal Poly. No I'm not a frontrunner, my dad is a USC alum and I have had season tickets to USC since I was 5.

you ask for advice about a hand but say you aren't going to take advice because you have a style.

Maybe try shutting up? 59 sooted w/ 50BB's. You're awesome.

I very specifically asked for opinions about the play post-flop (specifically if i should have gotten away from the hand). I already admitted that the hand would not have passed by the "starting hand police." Not to mention that you display a very weak understanding of the game by judging the quality of my play based on starting hands.

It's the best FIVE CARD hand that wins at the end, not the best TWO CARD HAND. With a hand like 59o, after the river, you're hoping you've caught 5 better cards than what you started with.

OK thanks. Judging by my play that's obviously what I was thinking at the time but in hindsight it "feels" like i played the hand bad although that's most likely just the results talking

Stadium's all done now. It's pretty sweet.

As for the hand: Not sure what you're questioning.
