Who would you like to see permabanned?

We have over 100,000 accounts on 2+2. Probably over 95% of those accounts are 'model accounts' and cause no problems. I would think a very small percent cause a very large majority of our problems. That small percent makes our modding jobs much more difficult.

1% of 100,000 would be 1,000 users. I think the site would be much better off if 1/10th of 1% or 100 users were removed from the site. The users that would be removed would benefit the site as a whole as many valued users probably quit posting as a result of these few trolls. Losing these few posters would also make modding much easier. We would have much more time to devote to other modding tasks rather than punishing frequent trolls.

I propose each mod can elect up to five accounts to be 'on last call status'. Mat or Ryan could pm each user on the list and inform them they are being considered for a permaban and ip ban where possible. The next misstep and Mat or Ryan could consider a permaban. That is JMHO on making our jobs easier. Who would you nominate for permaban consideration?

Thank you,

Jim Kuhn

Speaking of which: a note from degen

Hi Matt,

Just checking in again, wondering if possibly the mods have cooled off
and there is any way I could come back to the community. I haven't
specifically asked him but I have chatted a bit with PokerAddict since
I was banned and I don't think he's as angry as he once was. Also with
the power now to ban people from specific forums you could just keep
me out of A/R, as that is where all of the problems came from.

I've talked to so many people about this since I was banned and it
really is just a strong hate for me by a few mods that made this
happen. Dids, NT! etc. People I had been very vocal in my hatred for
as well. I really don't think its fair for me to be lifetime banned
because they dont' like me.

Obviously if I were allowed back and this stuff happened again I know
that I'd be gone again and for good...it wont happen again.

My interest has nothing to do with promoting myself or my sites, I
just want to be part of the community. Look at my Thailand thread, its
still going months after I was banned! I am now travelling the poker
tournament circuit and hanging out and traveling with 2+2ers
constantly, seems so silly that I can't take part in the discussions
on the site.

I really hope you'll consider this request.

Cheers

Bill (Degen)

Where do you get this number?

Re: Who would you like to see permabanned?

Mat,

I had thought about that before my op. I don't have five specific posters that I would like banned. Internet Gambling has many more mature posters than newer forums. There are 'types of posters' that I would like banned. One would be all of the ninja bumpers. I think the site would be better off without the winholdem accounts. Also, any poster that repeatedly makes the forums less enjoyable for the average poster. This definition is one that should be interpreted by you or Ryan.

I think you do a great job of watching over 100+ volunteer employees. You do not have incentives to provide like raises, bonuses, vacations etc. You also can not really punish your workers in any way. (Your primary punishment would be to tell someone they can not volunteer anymore). I managed a softball team for about a dozen years and can relate to not being able to provide incentives nor dole out punishments.

Thank you,

Jim Kuhn

A user that posted in the Zoo today had just registered and was about user number 122,000. Is that not the correct estimate for the number of registered accounts?

Re: Ryan, what\'s going on with this #?

I had based my estimate on this users profile.

Also, I don't think I was clear on my opinion. I would be for less temp bans and more permabans. There are a few users that add absolutely no value to the site. I like warnings and maybe even one minute bans to send the ban notes to the poster.

Thank you,

Re: Ryan, what\'s going on with this #?

Jim,

I guess the obvious response is, permabans don't seem to work as they'll just come back as something else (e.g. check BBV4L - in any given thread you'll have at least a handful of pretty new accounts who seem to know everything that's going on). I just don't think it has the bite you think it does, at all. I thought you were playing some sort of mod forum "who would you ban" game where mods could vent about their most troublesome regulars.

As for Degen, he sent me an e-mail maybe a month or so ago asking if I would run his reinstatement up the flagpole. I told him to e-mail Mat, simply put I don't know enough about the backstory to go to bat for him and as such am not comfortable doing so. He seemed to agree with this and said he would let it slide for a bit longer.

The lower number should be correct. It's likely most of that disparity comes from deleted users.

Re: Ryan, what\'s going on with this #?

that's a huge gap, isn't it? we deleted over 20,000 users?

Re: Ryan, what\'s going on with this #?

... possibly? The history and user numbers involved go so far back I would only be guessing. Chuck may have a better idea of why it's such a big margin from his experience. The user number assigned should always be significantly higher than the real number at this point, though.

Old vB import data from around the start of May reads 83,411. Oh, and we will get to save our most online record. I found the right stuff to run for that.

Maybe a lot of people registered and didn't validate? or there's a shedload of gimmicks that only posted like once?

Yep. They are still playing chicken. Bob is taking this all lightheartedly and I would guess so is BluffThis! Once one of them blinks the other will come back.

Irony: Bob just won the Canterbury Classic limit event heads up vs Schneids. That would have made for some fantastic threads here, oh well.

am i allowed to include mods in my list of 5?

Re: Ryan, what\'s going on with this #?

eh, i was thinking about asking this as a quiz or whatever, but instead i'll just throw this number out there:

total number of permanently banned accounts (not including deleted accounts, which is ~22,000 accounts), 4,875ish.

how many of those have the word "spam" contained in notes, user title or ban reason?
