Ability to block avatars would be nice.

Some are just offensive. I don't want to report them to a mod just because they annoy me. I would like to not have to look at it though.

Discuss?

My initial reaction was, "are you serious? Does it bother you that much? Are you the avatar police now?"

My second reaction was, "I'd like to see who has an offensive avatar."

My third reaction was, "Seriously?"

My fourth reaction was, "Forget everything I said and just show me some offensive avatars."

Thanks.

That's all or nothing correct?

Re: Ability to block avatars would be nice.

Correct.

Users should feel free to alert me to avatars that they find particularly inappropriate, however.

That's relative to different people. Any avatar that is an image of someone's ass annoys me.

Someone needs to get laid, methinks. Or take a valium. Or both, actually.

i greatly agree with this post. some avatars are just not suitable for public places, others are really disgusting (the one with the kid leaning out of the car and getting hit by oncoming traffic is just sickening, dont know whos it is).

seconding the request to implement this at some point

Other than block *ALL* avatars, there really isn't a better solution to your problem.

(srs reply so iron doesn't have to.)

I know this isn't the optimal solution but if you use the web browser firefox, and install the third party plugin adblock, you can right click an image and block the image permanently.

I'll have to give firefox a try I guess. I've hated the newest i.e. for about a year now anyway... Thanks again for the awesome new avatar.

If you're going to use a 500kB animated avatar, I'd prefer it have ass in it.

I'd think the best option for someone that thinks 500kB is a lot would be to turn them all off.

With my suggestion you could turn off all the funny ones and just leave the ones that you enjoy masturbating to, would save on your bandwidth.

Re: Ability to block avatars would be nice.

500kB avatars are not permitted. I'll help you fix it when I get home if you want, but try to bring it below 200kB. Shockingly enough, some people read 2+2 on dial-up.

Re: Ability to block avatars would be nice.

actually i tried reading a few weeks back on dial-up...

it was the only time the 99/99 format sucked and wish i was back at the default

Re: Ability to block avatars would be nice.

iron,

There was a time earlier this year when I had to log on from home on dial-up because of an issue with my high-speed connection. I assure you I most certainly turned avatars off, else the pages would take forever to load. Especially threads started by Anacardo and/or involving Blarg.

iron81 10-12-2007 02:56 PM

Re: Ability to block avatars would be nice.

Right, but your average noob isn't likely to know about blocking avatars. If they can't load the site, their likely response is to just not come back.

Or on pdas, but by the time it takes me to scroll through the Bible-like lefthand column all the images have loaded so it kind of sum-zeros itself out imo.

Re: Ability to block avatars would be nice.

my policy is, if posting an image would cause a thread to be NSFW, then using that avatar equates to making every thread NSFW, which is not ok

as far as i'm concerned boobie avatars ended when PITTM and amplify got rid of theirs. it's over. now it's like, banjos or something.
