What\'s your vote worth?

Assuming it were legal to sell your general election vote (no primary nonsense) and that it would take no effort on your part. What is the minimum dollar amount you would accept for your vote from

a) A random US citizen

b) A random member of the human race

c) Someone who's views are diametrically opposed to yours.

Mine is $1 $1 $1 FWIW.

We are at a very important point in our nation's history. A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for freedom and a vote against tyranny. I feel sad for you, that you would let your vote go for $1. I wouldn't take a penny under 5.

Bulls**t. You wouldn't sell your vote for $1Billion dollars? If not you're too stupid to vote.

Re: What\'s your vote worth?

Well, assuming it was legal to sell votes, they technically have no democratic value, so at the minimum the going standard rate for a vote + whatever more I can get. Giving a fixed price now seems like poor fiscal planning.

That's true. It maybe be no effort to sell your vote, but it's still effort to go vote.. (Though not really for me, I can hit my voting place with a rock from my house)

It's a fairly simple question, I just forgot to say that it would have to be some amount that had actual value to me. From my current economical standpoint I'd say we could start at around 2000$ to consider it, with the standard rate as the minimum if it is above that + whatever I extra can get.

Maybe it is stupid, but I cherish my vote for sentimental reasons, not so much for it's cash value.

Likewise, I wouldn't sell one of my kids for $1Billion. That may be logicially "stupid", but some things I just can't put a price on.

Re: What\'s your vote worth?

Hmm, I've never voted in the States, so I don't know how long it would take. But the obvious answer is that I'd do it for anything more than the marginal cost of getting to the polls and voting. Seeing as my vote is worthless anyway, that goes for all 3.

if some guys comes up to me and says "ill buy it". I'd say:

$100/$100/$100

Not because I think my vote matters (it's all rigged anyway), but because there's a sucker born every minute. There's gotta be some rich tard somewhere who'd be dumb enough to pay me that much.

Re: What\'s your vote worth?

Wtf my vote is not for sale!

It is however, for rent, at the rate of (1/1/2) per election.
But to answer the OP 5/5/20 ?

Edit: Dropped price.

Re: What\'s your vote worth?

My vote is worth very little and would sell it for a few dollars if my vote is being the only one sold in the US. If however, there's a rich source buying tons of votes, I hold out for a much higher price as I don't want them to be able to swing the actual election.

Ooo, I like this topic.
I've though of this before. All votes should be autionable.

If I am 1 of 3 votes determining whether I get the death sentance, my vote value = [MyLife'sValue * (1/3)]

A votes value is thus related to a particular issue to which it counts.

I think the key here is how much would someone pay me for the elector's vote. Assuming there was a free market for elector's votes and considering that something like $500 million was spent on the 2004 general election, I imagine the value of one elector's vote would be in the $1-5 million range.

Same goes for buying ordinary votes. The campaigns spent about $200/vote in the swing states with perhaps another $100 spent by independent groups.

With all this vote talk, why is voting not mandatory? Certain people are always saying men died for your right. So it's worth sending men to die, but not worth enforcing?
That is to say, peeps get fined on income taxes if they dont vote.

Wow, alot of you completely suck at hypothetical situations.

A. Random US Citizen: 50K
B. Random person on the planet: 100K
C. Opposite views: 500K

I vote based on what I think will be best for me first and foremost, and what I think will be best for everyone else secondarily.

By taking money for my vote I'm doing what's best for me.
