*****Clash of the Titans: NWE @ DAL (Week 6)*****

Has some of the luster of this matchup been rubbed off because of Romoaments on MNF? Does that even matter considering Dal was an underdog anyways? How likely is this a Super Bowl preview?

Opening Line: Dal+4
Current Line: Dal+5

Even if this ends up disappointing, we still have a few more top-tier matchups remaining in the season:
NWE @ Ind in Week 9
Pit @ NE in Week 14
StL @ NO in Week 10

Dont let the Tony Romo interception show fool you. He will get into the hyperbolic time chamber this week. I think NE will win but it will be close. NE better not overlook the C-boys.

Agreed. They've really had such a difficult schedule to start the season, that now that they finally get a game against a very weak team, you might expect them to not be focused.

I just hope the Colts are healthy by then. No reason they shouldn't be. Oh, as for this game it is a good match. Nothing much going on this weekend. Don't have schedule in front of me but iirc no big matchups other than this. The Pats should win with their B- game. Eh, no more talking about this game until Sunday.

Re: *****Clash of the Titans: NWE @ DAL (Week 6)*****

Pats should be a bigger favorite than 5 points.

They're going to come at Romo with so many odd rushes his head will spin. They're not going to let him get away with that rolling out to his right every other snap crap.

My prediction: Romo goes (now remember they'll be trailing the whole game so he's gonna get a lot of throws in) 21/44 with 215 yards 1TD and 2 INTs. Not horrible but nowhere close to beating NE. Also he'll be sacked I'll say "only" 3 times, but obv. he'll be hurried a ton on his throws.

Re: *****Clash of the Titans: NWE @ DAL (Week 6)*****

It's not the blitzes which I feel will get to Romo (it'll help). Belichick is very good at mixing up his coverages, and Romo got really flustered with the fake blitzes the Bills threw up against him all game.

On the other end, Dallas's secondary is still questionable. Roy Williams and Ken Hamlin are not very good in coverage, and Eli lit up the Cowboys 2nd and 3rd corners. I think the Patriots handle that cowboy pressure.

pats offense needs to get off to a hot start. none of this sputtering in the red zone crap like they did early against the bills. i know they were trying some different things and playing it conservatively, i just hope they haven't forgotten how to light these [censored] up.

i kinda suspect the cowboys are gonna cover if the line stays bigger than a field goal. i think this one could be close.

NE is in real real trouble if they do this. He alludes the best DE's and LB's in the NFL--none of them are on NE though they have some playmakers and part of his success come from broken plays. Buffalo didn't get to him by pressure, they dropped a linebacker in coverage b/c he was peppering JDub in the middle of the field--they just disguised some coverages and he made poor choices.

Early this year Jason Taylor (Defensive player of the year) and Zach Thomas (better than any LB on the Pats?) had Romo running all over the field and Dallas' big plays were out of the pocket, broken plays. Chicago tried the same thing and it failed too, Urlacher was puzzled all night.

NE has some scary good cover LB's, take away the middle of the field and they will be fine--keep him in the pocket. Romo won't be nearly as effective if they mix up the coverage than if they mix up the rushes. NE wins this game LDO but yea I think Dallas will at least show up.

I feel like this will be a close game. The Cowladies will play a good hard game and the ex-patriots will be a little stunned but win the game that they knew was never in doubt, but will look like it was to us lay folk.

Re: *****Clash of the Titans: NWE @ DAL (Week 6)*****

difference is, NE secondary is better than MIA by a good bit, and better than CHI once they all started getting hurt, too. with harrison back, they are actually pretty damn good right now imo.

but i agree, if thomas is healthy he is great disrupting things in the middle of the field, breaking up check downs and quick slants and whatnot.

still, i think you have to hit romo a few times, too. i'd love to see rodney just pummel him on a safety blitz in the first series and have him looking over his shoulder all night. then you can [censored] around with coverages all you want.

I fail to see how Dallas is a "titan" after beating five average-to-terrible teams. I took the Pats at -5.5, and I think that's a pretty sweet line.

Is Seymour done ? Is Adalius going to play ? With potentially both Maroney and Faulk out, and no Adalius or Seymour, it should be interesting assuming Henry can be ready for the Cowboys. And yes I know, Morris is healthy. But now he's got to basically take every snap and play the passing downs that Faulk played.

evans is a passable back in passing / short yardage situations, and a good blocker. he's healthy, right?

anyway, they can just go to the spread if need be

Re: *****Clash of the Titans: NWE @ DAL (Week 6)*****

Seymour can't come back until next week (it'll be longer than that), but no reason to believe Adalius Thomas misses this one. He played in the 2nd half last week after getting hurt. Morris is a fine replacement for Maroney, and I expect the Pats to pass much more than they run this week anyway.

I don't think this one will be very close unless Dallas gets a return TD or two.

Re: *****Clash of the Titans: NWE @ DAL (Week 6)*****

NT,

Some things that I think we are overlooking that are going to be the biggest problem for Dallas.

I had mentioned that NE had sick cover LB's this is important b/c it takes away the middle of the field which is Dallas' biggest weapon. JDub is Romo's bread and butter and basically their engine, I have a feeling NE will basically take that away.

The most important thing is not what NE will do defensively tho it is what they will do offensively. We concentrate so much on what NE is going to do to stop Dallas' offense b/c it is good but NE's is just as good. A few things--NE is going to give Dallas looks offensively that they aren't going to see at all this year unless they make it to the SB. NE's team speed may be too much. Dallas' D actually looks pretty good right now but out of Buffalo, St. Louis, Miami and Chi--Mia is prolly the best offensive team out of that bunch. They haven't played very good offensive teams.

In fairness to Dallas they will be at their healthiest to date--only Henry should be out w/ a high ankle sprain (obv Ferguson is out). So they have had to get better and better each week battling injuries and a new system.

The last thing is they have scored I believe 6 points in the first quarter this year and something like 122 points in the second half. I don't know if that will fly with NE. I don't see NE pulling a stunt like Buffalo did when they threw an out route on 3rd down on the 10 yard line w/ 6-7 minutes to go in the game up by 8 points which was then picked off and ran back like 70 yards by Newman. Buffalo also threw on second down--incomplete, so more time that wasn't killed off the clock. NE would have just ran it down Dallas' throat 3 times and if no TD, taken the 3 points--gone up by 11 w/ about 3-4 minutes left in the game. Point is, the slow start may be a hole that may be unrecoverable w/ NE. They are going to need to be sharp right out of the gate b/c they aren't going to be given the game this time.

NT! 10-10-2007 12:22 PM

Re: *****Clash of the Titans: NWE @ DAL (Week 6)*****

i agree, dallas has to come out quickly. i was not aware that they have been slow starters this year.

NE has scored on its first possession every week IIRC. but being in dallas, dealing with a lot of sick noise, etc, some early miscues could give them trouble.

i agree that the pats are going to try to control the clock on offense to keep romo off the field. on defense, they will basically try to take away TO and witten, and make your 2nd and 3rd receivers try to beat hobbs / gay / harrison in one-on-one situations. romo has shown he's willing to hit those guys, just a question of whether they can get open against a very good pats secondary.

i like the pats here, but people who are deriding dallas' schedule should keep in mind that the pats haven't exactly played a bunch of studs either, and while they have looked impressive, they have also run really good.

i'm not too worried because i expect moss to come in and put up like 300 yards with TO on the other sideline, but i think dallas will find a way to move the ball.

The Pats will destroy the Cowboys if the turnover ratio is even.

I'd guess that it would take a minimum of 5 NE turnovers for the Cowboys to even be in the game in the 4th quarter and that is simply not realistic.

Patriots 34 Cowboys 17

ok lol at them beating the Cowboys by 17 on the road, and allowing the same amount of points as Clevland scored in New England. That's hilarious.
