Find me a laptop
Okay. I just cashed out a grand to buy a decent laptop. First of all is that a decent amount of money or should I pull out more? I don't want the very best, I'd just like a decent one that gets the job. I'm just looking to play poker on it, basically. I'll be putting pokertracker,PAHUD, and whatever people tell me to put on it I guess.
So, what laptops have been failures, which ones are good? |
Re: Find me a laptop
FHaters,
This is probably more of a CTH-worthy thread but I guess we can leave it here until another mod decides otherwise or you get help. FWIW I use a crappy HP laptop but it's paid for and has a free wireless connection so I deal with it... |
Re: Find me a laptop
why would you use a laptop for poker? you'll need more money also i think.

Re: Find me a laptop
No idea why this is in the lounge at all.
FWIW, the reason you will need more money, to my view, is so you get a good enough screen to multi-table. That would take at least 1600x1200 resolution in a normal screen, or one of those 1680x1050(I think that's the resolution) in wide-screen. And if that's on a screen that's too tiny, ouch your eyes. Hence, the bucks, as good screens are pricey. |
Re: Find me a laptop
dell inspiron 1720.
17" 1920x1200. get an evdo card for wireless internet, $60/mo. Your laptop willcost you $2kish. |
Re: Find me a laptop
You could go with a 1520 which has the 15.4" 1680x1050 screen. I use something similar as my main comp right now, and play all my poker on it. I can get 4 tables with a little overlap top/bottom, but with the auto resizing tables it isnt an issue. I also have a 17" 1920x1200 lappy but I would rather use my 15.4" since its so much easier to carry around (I take my lappy everywhere.)

Re: Find me a laptop
Best buy sells a Gateway for 750 that I have been looking at. It is a dual2core, with 1g, 17" screen. Not sure about the res, but I do play on a 15" with overlapped tables when I multi-table. Right now, I single table though, but I will probably buy this one.

Re: Find me a laptop
You can just plug a laptop into a bigger screen too.

Re: Find me a laptop
Macbook Pro, shouldn't even be called a computer, thing is downright sickening.

Re: Find me a laptop
I vote for a IBM/Lenovo T61. Wide screen and a very good value.
I've owned three IBM/Lenovos and have had great experiences. I still play occasionally on a Year 2000 era IBM laptop. I would never again get a Dell laptop. I've only owned one and it burned out very quickly. The service guy laughed at me when I brought him my Inspiron. He said that heat issues cause the motherboards to go very fast and that the other circuitry follows quickly thereafter. Mine was about 12 1/2 months old (just out of the warranty) and he recommended I not get it repaired. |

Re: Find me a laptop
I met the one daveT mentioned. But my friend don't have a good experence on the Gateway, so I got ACER TM4230-6504 Notebook online. It features: Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz 15.4in 120GB HDD 1GB DDR2 533 802.11 a/b/g DL DVD +- R/RW Windows XP Professional. I think it's great, here is the deal I used, maybe some of you can try
