Things that are really ackward with your non-dominant hand

I'm sure a few of you have broken your dominant hand/wrist/arm and had it in a cast, but I never have. I think I'd want to die if I did... it's just too strange to do some things with my left hand.

What have you noticed feels really weird (or is almost impossible to do correctly) with you non-dominant hand?

For me,

Brushing teeth (try it if you haven't)
Throwing a ball
taking a leak (if I'm in a hurry I brush teeth with one hand, take leak with other. Brushing teeth is MUCH more difficult than taking a leak so I give my right-hand to it)
using a corkscrew
obviously other "sport-related" activities like shooting pool, throwing darts, etc are going to be equally as strange as throwing a ball

I tried to put on some chapstick a few days ago (the kind you squeeze onto your finger and rub onto your lips) and that was pretty weird too.

If you're ambidextrous then I hate you and don't care what you have to say.

I don't care if you have a hard time using right-handed items (like scissors) with your left hand; they're designed to be that way.

*edit* Using a mouse is pretty weird too

Mousing.

Also, I tried starting a thread in ATF with my left hand today, and had to abandon it.

Switching feet can be odd, too. Ever try using the gas or break peddle on your car w/your left foot or the clutch w/your right? Bizarre.

Pretty much everything, and yes, that includes masturbating.

I don't buy that 'it feels like another person doing it' stuff. A person who has no idea what they are doing, maybe.

I would advise against trying this as it is super dangerous.

I can't golf for crap when I swing left handed, but I could switch hit in baseball.

Shaving

anything involving a mirror, actually. That extra element of 'reversal' totally confounds what little abilities my left hand has.

Try wiping you @ss with non-dominant hand. Once the hand is outta site it gets even harder to control.

I'm right-handed and have always jacked off lefty. Is that extremely unusual?

I don't know, for me it's easier to do left handed things when I'm not looking. The only things I can't do left-handed are writing and the aforementioned mirror stuff, and I think it's because I'm watching intently the whole time. Screws up my concentration or something by adding another layer of confusion.

I broke my arm in elementary school and the hardest thing I had problem with was writing.

Also this past year I played in a co-ed softball league and they had this stupid rule that you had to switch hit if girls were playing in the field. I mean I'm not Pujols or anything but I can rake in softball, however I don't think I ever got a ball out of the infield switch hitting.

Re: Things that are really ackward with your non-dominant hand

Back in college I learned how to juggle and got up to five balls or three pins at a time. Something interesting I learned: If you practice a move with your non-dominant hand (say, juggling two balls in one hand) your dominant hand will instinctively pick up the skill and then with a little practice with your dominant hand you are an expert.

So if you think you have reached a plataeu in terms of your dominant-hand skill (say, in pleasuring yourself, leak taking, or teeth brushing), just practice with non-dominant and when you go back to dominant you will reach a whole new level.

Batting left-handed is not tough for me but throwing a ball left-handed is impossible.

wiping your ass is the best answer

when my right hand was wrapped up, wiping my ass was my biggest problem

I broke some fingers in high school and the first thing I did was train my other hand to stroke up and down. How was I going to go <strike>a couple weeks</strike> 45 minutes without doing it. (Need strikethrough!)

Easy things with other hand:
Waving
Mousing
Typing
Doors, etc.
Feeling Boobies

Hard things with other hand:
Throwing
Catching
Wiping ass
Writing
Cutting
Handtools

Don't even try with other hand:
Surgery

Work on doing these things well with both hands. My dad was a lefty and im naturally right handed so I ended up doing a lot of things lefty and righty.

Cutting & other handtoools seems like it would be very difficult and dangerous.

I had never even thought of ass wiping but that sounds like bad news...

I don't think catching would be all that difficult. Think about something like baseball where you intentionally catch with your non-dominant hand. I have no problem catching a baseball with my gloved left-hand then catching something like a tennis ball or frisbee with my left hand.

I've played ultimate Frisbee for a number of years, and I have always been very surprised at the large number of people who are unwilling or unable to catch with their off hand.

Hand tools goes either way for me, although I'm fairly ambidextrous as is, e.g., I write with my left hand, throw dominantly w/ my right hand but acceptably w/ the left, etc. I'll only use a hammer with my right hand, but I'll use a hand saw with either, often changing it up midstream if one arm gets tired. I change up shoveling and pick axing and some other things, too.

People shave with only one hand? I use my left for the left side of my face and the right for the right side. Is this unusual?

Re: Things that are really ackward with your non-dominant hand

Wookie, I have found I get a much better shave when shaving with both hands. It was definitely scary at first but now its no big deal. I think it has something to do with the way the pressure is applied to the hairs or something

With off hand:
Cant:
throw, write, eat, or anything that involves precision.

I do throw a frisbee lefty though.

and wtf at those who cant catch with off hand?

I'm just the opposite.

I think this comes from holding the sears catalog with my dominate hand when I was young.

this is just asking for trouble for most people.

I like both my ears, thank you very much...

I think I shave with both hands (with a safety razor) but I honestly can't remember. Is that weird?

I think that no matter what the consensus of OOT is about using one vs. both hands, it's definitely weird that you don't remember. When was the last time you shaved?

lol, it was a while ago I guess. I've been using a beard-trimmer with no guard for the last year or two and only clean-shaving for special days like my wedding...

I definitely use both hands when using the beard trimmer, but it's not too ackward.

Personally, I'd say that using a beard trimmer with both hands counts as shaving w/ both hands.

alright, if we're calling it that.

I think the amount of dexterity required to not cut myself with a beard trimmer is much less than for a razor.

Re: Things that are really ackward with your non-dominant hand

One other one.. if you spent any time training for boxing as a youth, it's actaully more natual (for me at least) to through a punch with your non-dominant hand.

For me it's cause of all the jabbing that was drilled into my head. You end up throwing 10-15 left handed jabs for every right, so you just get conditioned to throw puches with your left hand.

Even though I'm old now, if I'm play fighting with a couple of buddies the first reaction is a lefthand shot to their arm. Funny, cause I'm otherwise useless with my left-hand.

Odd the things that stay with us when conditioned young.

I do some things with my left hand (e.g. holding chopsticks, holding a racquet, shaving) and some things with my right hand (e.g. writing, throwing things, mousing)

I'm not ambidextrous, because I could totally not do things like, holding chopsticks with my right hand, or writing with my left hand. What are people like me called?

I think I remember reading that training your non-dominant hand new activities you previously only used your dominant hand for stimulates creation of new brain synapses or whatever they're called...

Slight hijack-

What's your play when hooking up and the girl is laying on the wrong side, so your dominant hand can't do the work?

Do you just go with it, or try to move around?
