How do you hit on a professor?
 

So I had this entry level art history class about a year ago. The professor was about two years older than me and occasionally during class discussion we would go back and forth on interpretations etc. We talked a few times after class, joking about her job, making fun of some of the policies etc, generally got a good vibe from her.

For whatever reason I ended having to reschedule my exam. She set up an appointment at the museum where she curates for the exam. I took the exam and was given a kind of back stage tour of the museum etc. There was this really, really awkward exit where I think she kinda went to give me a hug and I did the dumb ass hand shake maneuver. Any who, I ended up moving out of state for the next year.

I’ve since moved back and just ran into her a week ago on campus after chatting a bit I got her email address and fired one off, but haven’t gotten a reply. I don’t know this whole internet/school thing. Should I resend an email? Are you allowed to see a professors outside of class, or is that frowned upon? And how do you discern if it’s not mentor/student interest?

so are you a student there now or not? i am assuming yes. in that case you will probably fail since you are not even smooth enough to get a hug from her, and it takes a little bit of maneuvering to stick it in a professor while you are a student.

so just give up is basically what i am saying.

also what is up with the email you sent. "hey it was good to see you. boy how about those abstract expressionists, they sure were wacky! anyway great bumping into you." did you actually ask her to go somewhere or do anything, or did you just send her an email with no point? if so don't be surprised that she didn't respond, because you made it clear that you are (still) an awkward weirdo

Probably not. However, if you are able to SIIHP and someone finds out about it, it will certainly be the teacher who gets in trouble and not the student. Go for it!

But yea I am a student, albeit and older one so I don't feel too creepy about hitting on her. It was really one of those situations were I honestly thought it I'd never see her again and just got blindsided.

I've decided I'm not lame enough to send another email. But if I run into her again I'll go for the beer. Just wasn't sure if the threat to her job is high enough to make it not even worth pursuing.

So you're 78 and she's 80? Man, even if you are hitting that, I don't think the school board would WANT to know!

What was it you said to her in the email, out of curiosity? (I only ask because people tend to be very ball-less when there's an option of emailing someone.)

Also, are you her student anymore, or just enrolled where she teaches?
