What happened to the Professiional Poker Tour?
Did that die after one season?

Re: What happened to the Professiional Poker Tour?
yea

Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
I think that ship has sailed, SFSailLady.

Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
To few saw it on TV so they lost sponsor/TV network and had noone willing to sponsor or show it on TV.

Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
Big shame, I watched the PPT and liked the format and the coverage. I thought it was very well done and with the rising popularity of Poker the potential audience will only grow.

Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
I liked the coverage, I really like seeing early tournament coverage. Could have been alot better, only the top 6 winning anything is a little extreme and making it a freeroll was kinda silly IMO.

Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
Two of the worst announcers in poker.

Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
I loved this idea in theory. But the featured tables they chose in early-stage episodes were absolutely terrible. You would think from the show that mustachioed, overweight fifty-something nits were the superstars of the poker world. Also, the show would make bizarre editing decisions. Like the would show two hours of play going down from 18 to 9 players, but then skip coverage of the money bubble entirely, and not even tell you what happened before the final table. |
Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
i've had my fill of watching chris bigler.

Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
For that matter, wasn't there supposed to be some league (PPL?) where the top 64 players were drafted by two team captains. I remember hearing them chat about the draft on high stakes at some point last year. Did that die on the launch pad?

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I thought that was stupid, too. And as Taso said, Seif and Corboy are the worst announcers in history. |

Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
Not surprised that the team thing bombed. Still, it seemed to me at the time that most of the people involved were more interested in the draft/popularity contest than in actually playing, so they probably didn't mind.

[/ QUOTE ] I liked that the PPT showed good poker players, not just the over-the-top showmen that often get the most air-time during other events. The editing could have been improved, but how hard would that have been to achieve in 2007? I also would have no problem with a change of commentators, obviously several of the top picks were busy playing in the event itself. I liked the exchange between Mimi Rogers and Scott Fischman when he drew out on her "nice hand Scott, you little bastard". I think her tone was such that he would not have taken offence at all. James Woods was also good to watch, especially when you rewatched and saw him ordering a tomato juice, which Captain Tom received instead. Then his comment "I didn't like you when you were a second rate comedian, but I like you now", brilliant. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yea that was definitely the case. If they care about where they stand in the eyes of other players they should just have a player of the year award based on votes of the top pros, just like the old WSOPs. |
Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
not surprised this show tanked, the announcers were horrible and i saw way too much bigler imo
|
Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
It wasn't just the announcers that killed it IMO. The whole production was cheesy. What about those applauds and AWWWWs you heard the non-existing crowd make during the hands? The idea was defenetly good and I enjoyed seeing poker players that have been around the block a few times. I'm more interested in the old school players than 20-something hot shot ballas.

Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
yeah that's why I gave up on it. Seif was horrible and the other guy did nothing but spout cliches every chance he got.

[/ QUOTE ] I was actually at The Venetian the day the PPL drafted and played in a tournament with all the players who were in the PPL. Very exciting night, and the pros def. were excited about the league ... But the TV station (HD-something) pulled its backing of the league and sponsorship, so the league never got off the ground. |
Re: What happened to the Professional Poker Tour?
I didn't like the idea of the PPL, but I wouldn't say it bombed or failed or whatever. The sponsors pulled out when the UIGEA passed. It never really had a chance to succeed or fail.
The PPT - I liked the shows, but in hindsight it was really only the coverage of the entire tournament that made it good to me. I like seeing early and middle round action. A pro-loaded field was a nice idea, but it was countered by being a freeroll with a relatively small prize pool, which meant that many of the pros weren't really trying that hard. |
