Brian Griese to start next week
 

Finally, Lovie gives in and changes QB.

If something doesn't work, you don't repeat the same tasks and hope for a different results. Good decision by Lovie Smith to start Griese.

I am not convinced of that. Particularly with the injuries on D. They are going to need to make something happen on the offensive side. No running game plus Griese is not going to equal many points. At least Wrecks will lose in a spectacular fashion and take the heat off everyone else sucking.

Grossman has to go. Pick your poison. Grossman has continually failed as a starting QB. At least Griese had some success as a starter in Denver.

What exactly is so bad about him?


Heres a few QBs simlilar to him for a comparison:

Drew Brees: 80.0 QB rating, 107-71 TD/INT, 223.6 yards per game.

Steve McNair: 83.2 QB rating, 173-116 TD/INT, 194.9 yards per game

Phil Simms: 78.5 QB rating, 199-157 TD/INT, 204.0 yards per game

Troy Aikman: 81.6 QB rating, 165-141 TD/INT, 199.6 yards per game

Matt Hasselbeck: 85.5 QB rating, 119-74 TD/INT, 156.7 yards per game(note: Matt's ypg is unfairly brought down due to a lot of spot duty though)

Wow this guy is good. Next game against Indy, takes 5 sacks, loses 2 fumbles but still passes effectively 18-29, 231 yards, 1 td, 0 int. Next game against Tennessee, takes 4 sacks, loses 2 fumbles, throws 3 int, 0td and is 15-27 for 131 yards. Next game against Baltimore, goes 13-32 for 126 yards and the Dolphins win 9-6. Next game against Washington, throws 2 int by half and gets replaced by Jay Fiedler.

I wanted rex for another week. I hope it works out b/c I'm a fan, but I'm not optimistic. People totally ignore a) the good things rex has done and b) how messed up this team is on both lines.

Griese is overrated and ran a West Coast offense in Denver and Tampa - remember how great Steve Beuerlein and Bubby Brister were in that offense? He's also overrated because of one season where he had a 19-4 TD-INT ratio - the rest of his career he's been closer to 50-50.

He'll probably be better than Rex Grossman, but expecting anything beyond average is expecting too much.

There was only two posts in this thread supporting him. I liked him and defended him for a long time. It was hard, but I now know that he is not gonna be an NFL QB.

The problem is he's got a great arm. I mean, [censored], look how many chances Jeff George got. This won't be the end of him in Chicago, even though it probably should be. He'll probably be starting for the Bears again before week 8.

So what? He had a bad stretch there, but he has ranged from average to very good in all his other stops. He is far more proven as an NFL QB than Rex Grossman is.

I want sexy rexy back. I think he will do a heck of a lot better than Griese will in the next couple of weeks. I would've let Rex play the Lions and see what happens. If he sucks, well than its an easy pull, if he doesn't than week 5 he should hopefully have some of his confidence back. Oh and the [censored] that happened last week was like 25% Rex's fault, but he's taking 100% of the blame.

[/ QUOTE ]As Lions fan I agree, lol. But seriously the problem here is that the Lions secondary is so pathetic that Rex is likely to look pretty good out there and get a bunch more starts. Same is true for Griese IMO.

Brian Griese has the highest career QB rating in both the Denver and Tampa Bay franchise histories. If their "system" was so easy to put up good QB numbers in, then why has nobody else IN THE HISTORY OF BOTH FRANCHISES ever put up as good of a QB rating?

Yes, if Rex has a big week vs. Detroit, that really doesn't say much. Better to let Griese get a "warm-up" game in vs. weak secondary. That's assuming Lions front 4 don't sack his ass. OMG, someone plz explain why Chi is favored in Det???

Disagree. I think confidence is huge for a QB, and having confidence in your QB is huge for the team. The team has lost confidence in Rex and Rex has lost his confidence.

The Bear's QB is going to have an easy time this week against a weak opponent. Its better to let the team get tons of confidence in Griese imo.
