Fastest You\'ve Ever Driven

Not sure if this has ever been a thread but it seems like a cool topic, as almost all of us probably knows the fastest we've ever driven.

Mine is 120-125mph on FM1862 near a town called Blessing, TX (about a half-hour East of Victoria). I was with my gf and we were heading back to Houston from my brothers house in McAllen way down South.

It was in my old 1998 4-cyl Ford Contour and it was maxed out. Not too much vibration, and the visibility was awesome so I could see there were no cops or any cars around whatsoever. This was back when I was about 22 or so, and looking back on it, it was really stupid and wreckless. I'll probably never drive that fast again but it was fun!!

So, what are your stories, OOT??

On the way to a Tigers game a few years back, my friend got a flat tire. The game was at 8:00 and we got back on the road at 6:30. We were in Grand Rapids, 2 1/2 hours away. He wanted to call off the trip. I said no and drove his car ~120 the entire way from GR to Detroit. We were in our seats in the middle of the first.

240 km/h. It equals 150. It was in Germany when we went from Belgium to Austria on a skiing trip with some friends. Pretty awsome.

When I was 17, I was driving on some back roads on the way to the city. I got my parent's Intrepid up to 120mph and passed some people walking alongside the road. They probably [censored] their pants.

Re: Fastest You\'ve Ever Driven

The fastest I've ever driven is about 115 mph in a 1999 BMW 3-series in some stretch in the south during my drive from New Orleans to New York. About an hour (?? don't remember too precisely) out of NOLA, there's a stretch where it's just a straight shot and no place for cops to hide and this lasts for a while.

The fastest I've ever gone in a car where I wasn't driving was 120 mph in my friend's dad's 1997 7-series going around the southern tip of Manhattan (the stretch between the west side highway and the FDR drive.) Boy, that car can fly; it felt like we were doing 70, and so smooth too. Suspension wasn't too soft, and not too stiff. Just perfect. That car is awesome.

I was a passenger going 130 in a BMW 530 traveling southbound on I-294 outside of Chicago. It was a 6 speed manual, and it was only in 5th gear.

It was a Sunday afternoon, and my auditing cohort and I were trying to return back from an inventory observation in time to watch the Bears game that evening.

Personally, ~105 in a 1988 Buick Century during high school on backwoods country roads.

a couple of years ago 2 guys I know were driving ~200km/h down some rural road when they decide to call the passengers brother to say "Hey reese, guess how fast I'm goi-- line goes dead. 5 minutes later he gets another phone call saying they flipped the truck and are OK.

Caution: e-pene:

155 in my current car (WRX STI) a couple of times from NYC to Boston and the reverse trip. There is rarely a commute to or from work I don't break 100 and I usually hit 120 or so...I love my car.

Fastest I have ever personally driven is probably something like 95. I was in my buddy's RoadRunner when he hit 135, however. I get a little queasy now thinking about it, but it was fun at the time!

Re: Fastest You\'ve Ever Driven

I've driven about 115-120 I think in some car I drove somewhere along the way.

Not driving, I once made the mistake of asking my friend how fast his Vette goes while we were on our way out to a bar one night. A few seconds later we were going around 140. I believe those go even faster than that, but he figured I got the point at 140.

lol.

I've never taken any of my cars over 95. My mother once thought one of her friends was dying (wasn't) and apparently was flying around Spokane WA at like 120. There cant be many people who have been life outraced by their mom.

Re: Fastest You\'ve Ever Driven

I was 19 years old and was doing about 115mph in a 4cyl 82 Toyota Cellica going down hill coming out of the mountains. I was swerving through traffic on a two lane road racing my buddy in his 98 Dodge Dakota. We were both definitely above the legal limit with open containers in the car and I consider this to be one of the dumbest things I've ever done in my life.

Re: Fastest You\'ve Ever Driven

when i was 16, i took my mom's car (nissan something) to go pick up my friend for our basketball game. we were blasting "no sleep til brooklyn" as loud as it could go and i said to him, "wow i'm going almost 120 and it doesn't feel like i'm even speeding."

seconds later as i approached my exit i saw the flashing lights behind me and realized that i was [censored]. the cop came to my window and said, "do you know why i pulled you over?"

me, "uh, no."

cop, "i clocked you at 95, but i saw that you slowed down right after you saw me."

me, "actually this is my exit, i would have slowed down a lot more if i saw you."

there was a mandatory court date for doing 40 over (speed limit was 55 at the time on 696 outside of detroit) and i pleaded guilty with an excuse. the judge asked what my reason was and i said that i was used to driving my car which was an 84 dodge charger that topped out at 55, so i wasn't used to paying attention to my speed.

not surprisingly he said my excuse was no good and i had to pay around $150 (a small fortune to me at the time) and got 4 points. i was fortunate though that i didn't end up with a reckless driving charge or get my mom's car impounded.

to this day, every time that i hear "no sleep til brooklyn" i think of that story.

Re: Fastest You\'ve Ever Driven

I'm somewhat shocked that mine is one of the fastest ones. I drove 150mph in my ex-girlfriend's 1996 Chevy Beretta in approximately 1997. It was on a rural, divided highway (State Highway 6 between Batesville and Oxford, Mississippi, if anyone knows the area) and at night. The ride was really smooth as silk, and I distinctly remember the sound of the wind whistling. It was great.

The weird thing is after you slow back down to 60mph after going that fast, you feel like you're barely moving.

(Disclaimer: The car only had 120 or so on the speedomoter, but the needle was past that and pointing directly down, so I'm not absolutely sure how fast we were going.)

109 in a chevy cavalier. They were not made to go that fast. Did it in Omaha, coming home from high school on 144th betwn pacific and dodge for those that are familiar with Omaha. Not too long after, I was doing around 100 on the same road when some old lady pulled out of the post office and just stopped her car blocking both of the lanes going my direction. I veered off into the other direction's left hand turned lane, jumped the curb, and kept going. Lady still hadn't moved a couple of minutes later. I think she was scared out of her mind. So was I because I would have killed her no doubt. I've slowed down ever since, though I still like to drive faster than most.

According to my camaro, 135. Problem was the speedometer jumped from 110 to 135 in about a second. So either that thing had some kind of secret afterburners.
