Pandora \"Thumbs Up\" Lists

I'm always looking for new music to listen to at home, work, and the gym. As such, pandora.com is a great way to diversify my song selection within the defined genres I know I like.

Here's my Indie/Rock/Hardcore thumbs up list:

For those of you who don't know what pandora.com is, check it out here.

Everyone else: Post your thumbs up lists!

edit: I got to 8 screenshots and I'm only at "H". Should i bother? The upshot of thumbing so many songs is pandora has me down pat now. (edit 2: worked out it'd take 22 screenshots. Is that a lot of thumbs ups?)

I've always loved Pandora, but I love it even more now that I can get it on my cellie. I'm so happy I switched to Sprint. Sero FTW!

I have the same issue as PH. My thumbs up list is way too long to post, although I doubt you'd like any of my stuff. It's mostly techno/house/dance stuff. Here's a link to the station :

i must be the only one not in love w/ pandora.

the first week i rated guns n roses songs all thumbs up because they rock obviously. as a result i had cinderalla, great white, warrant, slaughter on my quick rotation. after hours of critiquing, i still fast forward through countless songs (it usually maxes out and i have to change channels). pandora is so-so nice but i dont get a boner over it.

Re: Pandora \"Thumbs Up\" Lists

pandora seems to work really well if your tastes fall pretty clearly along genre or time lines. if you are like me and enjoy particular artists across a bunch of different genres, but dislike many of their contemporaries, it can be hard to get a consistently good mix.

i have had some good luck with finding songs or albums that i like on pandora, it's just not a sure-fire thing for me.

I loved it until it threw Bronson Arroyo's album at me. WTF.

Hit the little down arrow next to the station name and go to edit station.

pandora was all i listened to before they banned it in canada (and then banned the anon proxy i used to get around that). most of my stuff was bachata and reggaeton tho, so i won't post my thumbs up.

my biggest beef with them actually is the way they will play like 5 hip-hop songs, then 5 dance/trance songs, then 5 rock songs, rather than a crazy mix. I guess they are trying to segue all their tracks but it doesn't work for me. Therein lies the problem with loving everything from a capella and bluegrass to xylophone music.

yeah that was my problem. I gave thumbs up to a bunch of lil wayne, but then it kept trying to get me listen to every southern rapper, none of whom I like. I wish it could figure out that if I like lil wayne but give thumbs down to the next 20 southern rap artists they give me, maybe loving lil wayne does not equal loving southern rap.

Re: Pandora \"Thumbs Up\" Lists

It occurred to me listening to Pandora now that I only thumb down songs i have a strong distaste for, the "meh" ones i just let slide. So i'll post my thumbs down list!

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/7846/boo1lk9.jpg
http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/7783/boo2my7.jpg http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/1638/boo3pb7.jpg

the issues, i think, lie in these facts:

- I like pop music, but not saccharine pop / boy band / girly solo artiste pop

- I like politically informed / protest hiphop, but not the "braggard" forms

- I like dance music and some trance, but not totally insano drum and bass, I'm kind of picky.

- I like some 'classic' bands, but not Paul McCartney. lol. Or the Bee Gees.

that should cover most of the bases.

I'd like to add, of all those songs above, the polar opposite of what i like is the godawful number called "Social Frankenstein". That was utter crappy pap fecking crapsh**e.

however good it feels to be gangsta, I just prefer the Dead Prez / Immortal Technique / Disposable Heroes political hiphop better. Maybe it's an empathy thing - I'm no gangsta, but I do see the political world more that the projects. Especially in the UK, where no projects exist.

I'm also looking for new music all the time.

One good thing I found with pandora is making a new station with a new seed band, so you get a whole new group of suggestions.

I think I have 10+ stations. This is the list from my 2 most listened to.

Peter,

Peter Harris 10-09-2007 11:16 PM

Re: Pandora \"Thumbs Up\" Lists

it's useful to see thumb up / down lists because you can see a "spectrum" - i.e. a hundred bands who are interconnected in some way, namely the compilers prediliction for certain genres.

No need to trash really, horses for courses. That said i think the only one i recognise from yours is lostprophets and i was meh on them. Maybe because I heard they were Welsh.

I like the Jam. And Bowie. I just think those songs are the weakest/poorest exponents of an otherwise excellent career.

sadly my "hood" is full of pensioners and commuting dads, we have one street light in the village of 1,500. The butcher/paper shop have known me from birth and the most exciting thing in the village in recent memory was about 8 years ago when there was a chimney fire down the road.

Re: Pandora \"Thumbs Up\" Lists

I even went to the trouble of checking the samples of people who have "wtf'd" me.

Yanni sounds like a poor man's Vangelis imo, that Jam track is possibly one of the worst "trying to be jazzy and coming off as arrhythmic/epileptic fit" intros ever, and "gangsta-ass [censored]"? please.

So far i'm happy with my draconian thumbs down. Glad to see noone has felt compelled to defend "band on the run".

does this still work for you? I haven't been able to access pandora directly outside the US since they changed it. I had it working with Tor + Privoxy proxy software, but it didn't stream very well and cut out a lot.

I wish you could start a new station without any seed at all so that it's starting with their whole library on random.

Is there some secret way to do this that I haven't figured out?

This is a great thread simply because I didn't know you could find what songs you've Up'd.
