LA area Kevin Smith fans...

Kevin Smith is holding a poker tournament in Westwood at his Secret Stash store on OCT 6. He says they don't play cheap.

Free money for 2+2?

WOW is all I can say to not knowing him. He is the creator of Jay and Silent Bob (plays Silent Bob himself). Also has many cult classic films such as Chasing Amy, Clerks, and Mall Rats to name just a few. Well known writer and director. Let us know what the price is for the tournament if you don't mind when you get a response.

I'm not surprised that someone doesn't know him. He's not a great director and you have to have a certain sense of humor to enjoy his movies. I do know who he is and enjoy his movies immensely, but they are not for everyone.

You have to buy a $200 package of comic stuff to get in the door, then the buy in is another $200. I went last year, pretty good time about 3-4 tables, some A list celebs as well.

Kevin smith is a GREAT director when not compared to classic innovative directors. he has successfully carved his niche in the industry while writing his own scripts, hiring his friends, and creating some of the most stimulating humorous dialogue ever written.

Sounds like a great time

Whoever goes needs to find out Affleck's screen name. Also, we need a trip report and please don't screw it up with crappy gossip after the event.

I don't get this. I'd much rather hear gossip than how some random 2+2er reacted when Don Cheadle opened from the CO.

bones,

I meant good gossip not no gossip. Some noob will think Matt Damon spilling his Diet Coke qualifies as NVG worthy. It does not. We want to hear someone got drunk at wizzed on himself in the bathroom. If that doesn't happen make some crap up.

It's a little annoying that you have to buy $200 of comic books/other merchandise up front, *then* pay the $200 tourney fee. I have no use for comic books and would have to resell them on ebay.

So the price this year the same as last year? If it was like $1000 buyin I'd go but $200 seems pointless.

It's solely a legal issue. I'm not into comics at all, but a kid I went to high school with owns a comic store in town, so I just gave them to him and he said they were worth about $900 retail.

Huh? How is this a legal issue? I'd like to know where it is written that players must purchase items of value equal to the buy-in amount of a tournament first before being allowed to play.

This is just Kevin trying to extract more money out of those interested in playing with him. Nothing wrong with that. Hell, Kevin would sell his own sh&6 if he could figure out how to put an autograph on it.

Literally right on the invitation. And it's not equal, the $200 you spend in items are worth almost 4.5 times the amount paid.

Re: LA area Kevin Smith fans...

i know exactly where this is. i even passed by it and i doubt it was anything more than a home game where the most people lost was a few hundred.

im surprised that it wasnt even shut down by the cops as the place a few stores down from them used to be a backroom card club that was raided after the fire department alerted the police to the amount of people playing cards in the backroom of the business.
