golf in true HD
I'm actually not a golf fan at all, but one day last May or so (could have been June) I was browsing through the HD channels and I caught a Golf tournament or whatever, and it looked INCREDIBLE with the HD. I didn't mind watching it, I can appreciate someone who is a great player.
Anywho, the thing is I'm assuming that channel was VSGLF (207 here with Comcast in Philly) but now it doesn't look anywhere near as good. What is the deal here? Did they stop using HD cameras? Or was I watching a different channel back then maybe? ..Any ideas? |
Re: golf in true HD
It's sickening how much better stuff looks in HD. I can't wait for everything to switch over.

Re: golf in true HD
Its usually only broadcast in HD on the weekend when one of the major networks are covering it.
On a related note, my cat is pretty shy and usually runs and hides when we have company over. She's used to playing with my golf balls when I'm practicing my putting, the HD broadcast is so clear she gets intrigued watching the golf ball on the screen then she gets freaked out when they show the golfer and runs upstairs like a bat out of hell thinking somebody is in the house. |
Re: golf in true HD
hahah, ahh, cats. I guess it was on a major network then. In that case, I'm looking forward to the weekend :P
It's kind of lame that the GOLF channel doesn't cover it correctly. |
Re: golf in true HD
I have golf channel HD actually.

Re: golf in true HD
Is it the VSGolf thing I mentioned earlier? Because that is "HD" but its not REALLY HD. Not as clear as HD should be, by any stretch.

Re: golf in true HD
God damn it, I hate you Americans! Here in Noway next to nothing is broadcast in HD, and it's dubious whether it'll get much better in the near future. And here I'm sitting with my beautiful 42" HD-ready Plasma TV watching low-resolution PAL broadcasts.

Re: golf in true HD
Why waste the money?
|
Re: golf in true HD
That wasn't a smart purchase...since regular cable looks WORSE on HD tv's.

Re: golf in true HD
I've got digital satellite, which clearly looks better on my 42" HD Plasma than on my old 32" CRT. Besides, I've also got a pretty fancy HTPC setup which makes DVDs look pretty spectacular. Still, it's a shame that I won't get full value out of my TV before it's outdated.

Re: golf in true HD
Yeah. And I believe here in the States all channels will be digital this Januarary.
|
Re: golf in true HD
The quality obviously depends on the station broadcasting it. Some of the networks don't have 100% HD cameras covering the course(NBC I think?) and some do(CBS). I remember reading this somewhere a while back so I'm not positive on the stations.

Re: golf in true HD
You MAY have it backwards. I just watched the Presidents thing in HD this weekend. Oh-My-God. Looks FANTASTIC. The lake or whatever, in the middle, the autumn ish trees. Really reminded me of home.

Re: golf in true HD
A lot of times golf does look worse than other sports, flipping between golf and a football game, both in HD, almost every time golf looks much fuzzier and blurrier. I don't know why that is, if there aren't enough hd cameras to shoot 18 holes so they fudge and use widescreen SD cameras or what, but I notice it too.

Re: golf in true HD
Even though HD does look a lot better I don't find sports to be that much more entertaining on it. Kind of like how video games these days have far better graphics yet most of them still suck.

You suck because: [x] You bought HD-Ready and not True-HD [/ QUOTE ] Those two terms are not opposites. HD-Ready means the tv doesn't have it's own ATSC tuner, and needs an outside tuner from a cable or satellite box to display HD images. TrueHD is one of two things: (a) A lossless Dolby audio format (b) what some people colloquially refer to 1080p as [ QUOTE ] Furthermore, when HDTV finally is available in Norway, it will be a lot better (MPEG-4 / IPTV) than the current American system. [/ QUOTE ] DirecTV currently broadcasts many HD channels using mpeg-4. In America. |

You suck because: [x] You bought plasma and not LCD [/ QUOTE ] Why is this? I bought a plasma after a little bit of research and viewing the two types side-by-side, and am more than happy with the plasma. Seems like the technology has caught up with the flaws in both, especially over the past year. |
