this list is surprisingly bad, even for one voted on by radio listeners

Re: Top rock songs ever

what i find most amazing is that there are maybe three or four bands on this list whose best song is actually the song listeners picked.

2 foo fighter songs in the top 20 = rape

I agree with nt, this list bites hard

Wow. WTF kind of people have like 15 of the top 20 rock songs ever coming from the 80's and 90's. No Rolling Stones, no Beatles, but the Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, and Metallica all have 2 songs on the list??!! I've never even heard like 4 or 5 of these songs and probably never will.

edit:

Just noticed it's from New Zealand, when I first read it, I thought it was AZ. Is David Hasselhoff a popular musician down there?

Im in agreeance with everyone here. Everlong maybe but theres no way best of you should even be in top 1000 let alone top 20.

wow, i love the foo fighters, but there is no way they are responsible for 5 of the top 100 rock songs of all time. Meanwhile zepplin has 2 songs in the top 100.

Does anyone else think that counting down the top 1000 of anything is rediculous. I mean how do you distinguish between 695 and 696 best song of all time.

As far as New Zealand is concerned, rock and roll was born in 1983.

The list gets worse, much worse...I was appalled at some of the choices, and by one major band not any where on the list - Rush. Sad, just sad.

Ugh where the hell is Layla. Also it's funny how exactly zero Beatles songs made the top ONE THOUSAND.

Europe being 1000 just takes the [censored] cake. That song is definitely top 100 maybe even 50 material, but instead it is beaten by so many songs that are barely even rock. I see rock is now fully endorsed by the fanny brigade instead of meaning loud ... rocky.. music. Radiohead Creep?! WHAT THE [censored]? I suppose you're already in the lower percentiles of being human when you submit songs to these lists though. Especially if you are someone who votes for U [censored] 2.

Imagine a song that makes you want to smash tyranny, [censored] blondes and drink warm beer. If you imagined U2, [censored] off.

Queen doesn't show up until #13 and the Foo Fighters make the list twice. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Doors are completely absent, but Rage Against the Machine makes the top ten.

I give up. Just reading that list has sapped my will to argue.

I don't know most of those songs, and I've been to New Zealand twice. Other posters are right - seems like Will to Power's "Freebird/Baby I Love Your Way" should really be there. That song's like 20 years old now, maybe NZ listeners just don't remember:

FWIW list doesn't include Moony's "Dove/I'll Be Loving You Forever" and Spiller's "Groovejet/If This Ain't Love"...

Yeah, I got given that album by an ex-girlfriend when it came out. I listened to it twice and just figured that there must have been something that I was missing.

My number 1 rock song of all time is "You shook me all night long". I dropped this at my club the other night in the middle of a house set and the place went absolutely crazy. And yet on that list we have songs like With or without you in front of it.

Re: Top rock songs ever

Wrong AC/DC song at the top, it should be "You Shook Me All Night Long."

Did "All Right Now" by Free make the list somewhere? Always thought that was the "quintessential" rock song.

Re: Top rock songs ever

the top 10 rock songs basically have not changed since they started doing listener lists.

This list is fairly close give or take

1. Stairway to Heaven (always been #1)
2. Layla
3.Freebird
4.Satisfaction
5.bab O'reilly
6. Hey Jude
7. born to run
8. light my fire
9. wont get fooled again
10. tangled up inblue

My friends have discussed how strange that this list rarely varies, and songs in the last 25 years are unable to crack top 10.

Big LOL at op's list.

Hotel Ca, Sympathy for devil and let it B also get thrown in there

debating these kinds of lists is so stupid, there are obvious levels in terms of how great a song is, like stairway, layla, hotel ca, freebird are all on the immortal level, but you can't say one is better than the other, they're all amazing

Sure, I'd argue that you could easily shift that time period back by 6-10 years. My top rock songs would have more Buddy Holly and less Bread.

1 AC/DC - Back in Black

This one seems a little overrated to me. I know it's one of their signature songs, mostly because it's the title track from one of the greatest rock albums ever. However, I think AC/DC had several songs better than this. You Shook Me, Thunderstruck, Hells Bells, Highway to Hell, and Moneytalks all seem like better choices to me. Even though I'm a huge AC/DC fan, I doubt any of those songs are the best rock song ever.
