Lounge demographic polls

B&M did this recently. I did it recently in Golf. ajmargarine has done a really comprehensive one in a strat forum (some strat forum, dunno I have them all minimized). After some discussion with katy I decided to put this together and hope you folks take the time to answer. If you would like to post to let us know your answers that would be great too, else your answers will be interesting but anonymous.

I'm going to sticky this for the near term since if everyone answers anonymously it will just slide down the page, but any of you other mods feel free to unsticky and I won't take it personally. It needs to get dropped after awhile no matter what.

Please share.

Re: Lounge demographic polls

Also, that last question was tricky and I debated whether to include it or not, but the site admins may find it interesting to see where people who participate in this forum also read. I feel that I left a forum or three off that is very popular which may result in both of the "other" options being very popular, but I also thought that including EVERY forum would be exhausting.

There's no age option for people who are exactly 20...

I checked the first, ldo, but still.

Kimbell,

Man I spent a lot of time and PMs with katy trying to get this thread juuuuuuuuust right, and you nitted up the one thing I did wrong. Oh well. I'm not sure if I can edit a poll or not, I don't think so but I'll try.

EDIT: and I frequent ATF because it is awesome but doesn't seem busy enough warrant its own tab so I just went with "other OT forum" on that one, although you could argue it's both OT and poker/gambling related.

22, male, USA, single, no kids, no poker (once every couple months a homegame or two), and Lounge, OOT, BBV4L, Sports.

Do I win the mode demographic? Close to it.

Re: Lounge demographic polls

I'm not really sure how to answer your poker type frequency questions or the forum check frequency sections. I play online pretty regularly, but I do the other 3 on a roughly once per year basis or so. I checked them, but maybe I shouldn't have. For forums, I check EDF a couple times per week or so, and the other forums I "frequent" I read most every time I log in. Should I have checked the box? I didn't. Oh well. I also forgot to check the "Other OT" box for the mod forum and for ATF.

I have "unstuck" this thread. The responses thus far have been good, hopefully people will see and continue to contribute to this thread.

Wookie, by "regular" I figured on at least a monthly basis.

You unstuck the thread already? Will you make up your mind. The response to your thread has been very good!

My favorite forums to browse are the lounge, OOT and Politics.

I've always wondered.
How do people who don't play poker even find this forum, much less end up as regulars?

It would just never occur to me to go to a website dedicated to something I don't do.

So two things wrong with the poll then.

I don't know about regulars, but I was directed here by a couple of guys whom I played online golf (Links LS) with back in the late 90's - early 2000's. A handful of us participated in a golf forum, that got whittled down to 5 of us exchanging emails and golf trip reports, then the two aforementioned guys started playing online poker and hanging out on 2+2. One of the guys is now the mod who started this thread/poll.

I have continued to visit 2+2 to kill time at work.

This is true in my case as well. Though instead of work, school. That and I wouldn't call it killing time, as I thoroughly enjoy it, usually.

Huh. I guess my initial surprises are that this forum seems to be even older than I expected, and that there are somewhat fewer women than I expected. It also seems to be more USA-centric than I expected, but I'm not sure how that stat would compare to the rest of the board.

Like TomE pointed out, there's other ways in. Well before I ever registered here I had bought and read multiple poker books and played some online and at a B&M. In fact I play way less poker now than before I ever knew about 2+2.

Also, the off-topic forums here are now so diverse and far-reaching that I'm sure the word is out about some of them. For example, I've sent people links to off-topic threads on this site plenty of times and some have gone on to register.

BigPoppa 09-11-2007 02:49 PM

Re: Lounge demographic polls

I was just wondering, because I always thing of 2+2 as a forum for poker players (many of whom have other interests, of course). I can see continuing to post even if you quit poker. I just didn't know why people would start even if they didn't play.

LOL, ATF has easily gotten enough mentions that it should have been included. Surprising, but it's gone from a sleepy little outpost where politeness was mandatory during MicroRobert's reign to a near free-for-all where Mat admits he is entertained by the chaos during Mike Haven's tenure.

katyseagull 09-11-2007 09:52 PM

Re: Lounge demographic polls

Mat likes to be entertained. Here I was thinking that bluffthis was going to get his little butt banned and instead Mat was delighting in the insults. Go figure.

I'm surprised there aren't more women in the lounge. Helloooooo female lurkers....Any of you out there?

tuq 09-11-2007 10:00 PM

Re: Lounge demographic polls

Yeah that male:female distribution is surprising. 104:5. Wow, I thought this place had a less intimidating, "chick friendly" vibe yet the ratio is probably not any better than OOT.

katyseagull 09-11-2007 10:10 PM

Re: Lounge demographic polls

106:5! What the heck is going on here? I know there have to be some female lurkers out there. And how did we even get 106 people in the lounge today? Did they all just come over from OOT or what? And why aren't they starting new threads?

So you didn't age well Phat? Too Bad. But check this out; I found something for you, the oldest hominid to post on this forum, to do when not mesmerized by The Antiques Road Show:

Watch Cheese Age

While watching have some wine and crackers in anticipation.
