High Stakes Poker thread (9/3)

Time for the week 2 thread, hopefully this time certain people will have the decency to not to start brand new threads with spoilers (or at least give a spoiler alert). Will there be more fun with 7-2? Will there be more Brian Brandon sightings? Will there be some good Haralabos stories in the thread? Tune in and find out.

Kobe's $21,000 Bubbly Bill

Posted Sep 3rd 2007 4:09PM by TMZ Staff

Kobe BryantKobe Bryant is known for being a tough competitor -- in the club?!

Basketballin' Bryant and his wife, Vanessa, were at Friday night's grand opening of BLUSH Boutique Nightclub at the Wynn in Las Vegas, when he saw poker player Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari kick in for two bottles of $1,400 Cristal champagne. According to sources inside the club, Kobe wasn't about to be shown up by some puny little card player -- and kicked in for five bottles. Antonio, who's used to upping the ante, then switched his order to ten! Go big or go home!

Kobe ended the competition when he purchased an astounding 15 bottles -- and then left the club! Just to put Bryant's baller status into perspective -- Kobe's $21,000 bill still doesn't cover what NBA and gambling legend Charles Barkley drops on one hand of blackjack!

"My bluffs don't work, my big hands don't get paid off, blah, blah, blah...."

There's a reason for this Phil Laak...you're a nit that gets pwned in HSP vs good cash game players...please STFU and quit that stupid-ass push-up routine

Re: High Stakes Poker thread (9/3)

I am surprised no one brought up the Phil Hellmuth clip. How is it possible that he doesn't understand that people are laughing at him and not with him?

I said it last week having Haralabos at his table was directing genius.

[x] ep2 doesn't even come close to ep1.

Solario, Brandon, Matusow and Helmuth really need to be replaced asap.

Wow, how many times have we seen Phil Laak try to angleshoot on several TV shows now? Also, how many times have we seen Phil Laak bitch every hand he's in that he doesn't win (along with ones he does)?

Steps to creating good TV poker:
1. Add one whiny nit who tries to slime people
2. Add several idiot businessmen who give a lot of action
3. ???
4. Profit

I liked this episode more personally. The 27 every hand got old for me. Matusow's crazy bets and Hellmuth antics were more entertaining for me.

LOL at the 2500 bet by hellmuth and just the flat call by Brandon. "of course I played the [censored] hand like a genius"

-Goddamn I can't stand Phil Laak's nitty-ness. Bitches about every little thing, ugh. The guy clearly said his bet on that last hand and he's tryin to angle him. Sad...

-Brian Brandon looks to be trying to hard = tool still

-Matusow, LOL.

-Hellmuth thinks he is the be all/end all. So damn annoying, really douche-chilly.

-Oh, my suggestion for McCutter's title- So Far Up Hellmuth's Ass

When is Helmuth going to learn that betting $10 into a 50K pot with air doesn't work in cash games?

He got to see a showdown for about 1/20th of the pot. I'd say it worked pretty well.

LOL @ this entire thread. "I can't stand ....(Insert complaint here)" is all anyone is saying but yet everyone is watching, ROFL.

I thought it was hilarious when the reply to Helmuth's "So what did you put me on with my reraise preflop" question was "a middle pair, I called so I could kick your ass"

a) wtf at Helmuth's table coaching. Just type "nh" and let the donkey enjoy himself.
b) wtf at Laak folding a monster draw on turn in position with enough behind for 2/3 pot bet.
c) wtf at the Matusow call with 44
d) the two Matusow shoves were either genius or madman. I cannot figure out which one.
e) wtf at Brandon not raising trips there at the obvious blocking bet.
