September Low-Content Thread

I just came back from a cruise on Royal Caribbean, and they had a poker table in the boat's casino. I played a total of like 20 hands the whole week because I spent most of the cruise climbing Mayan ruins, snorkeling in Honduras, and relaxing on a beach in Cozumel.

The first night was 5/10 LHE, and the other nights it was 2/5 NLHE.

Typical hand from the LHE game.

An EP limper, folded to me in the BB with 97.

Flop Q96 with 2 spades. I bet, he calls.
Turn Q. I bet, he calls.
River A. I check, he checks. His A2o (no spade) is good.

Howard Beale 09-02-2007 10:27 PM

Re: September Low-Content Thread

Only one limper? At 5-10 on a boat? You WERE better off under water.

Anyway, here's a hand that I wouldn't bother posting about :

CAZ 20. Total stranger raises in EP. Bunch of callers. I call in BB w/ K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Flop:

A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8(?) and some other[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I check, he bets, everybody folds I call.

Turn:

Some middle[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (I'm going to have to start writing these things down). Check/check.

River:

Another middle[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

I bet, EP raises, I 3-bet and he says: YOU RAISED?!? I RE-RAISE!!! How's that for a classic? I was ready to throw my cards in the toilet but I don't know the guy and I call. Against many players I could fold. As he's proudly turning over his cards I expect to see the Ax[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] but NO!!! He's got red Q-10 for a straight! I show my flush and he's like 'but there's no flush possible' and goes all red when it's pointed out that, oh yes, there is and look who's got it.

Anyway, anybody want to go to 5? Hahahahahahaha......

Tonight I play cards and get the Ace Ace. One mongoloid limps, fishcake #1 raises, I 3bet, tilty weak player in sb 4bets and 1st limper caps of course.

Flop: 973 2 spades.
4 bets go in on flop w/ myself and sb driving action and of course everyone else calling.

Turn: 2x

Checks to me I bet all call.

River: Q

sb bets, everyone folds and I am dry heaving as I call. He turns over KK and says "Just wanted to scare you."

That reminds me of another hand from friday that I witnessed. Lots of $ goes in pf and on the flop, on the turn the board is Q633r, prime idiot in the blind bets, ok utg raises, roaming straddle 3-bets, idiot2 on the button calls 3 cold (yes, 3 cold), PI calls 2, utg calls.

River is a blank and PI comes firing out!

UTG calls

roaming straddle calls

button folds

PI shows 88!

UTG shows KQ

roaming straddle shows AA and receives the dollars.

I played a hand just like that in Tommy's room at the Mirage against Justin. It was so dark that I couldn't see there were three of a suit on the board and Justin and I went a hundred bets before I realized there was a three-flush on board. Fortunately, there was a 99-raise cap.

A better tell, in my experience, is the guy who shakes his head disgustedly when an apparently dangerous card comes on the river and then bets. I once beat a guy who shook his head in 1984. Haven't beaten a head-shaker since.

hahaha, i've actually caught myself doing that in situations where i'm running bad and have a strong had that may potentially have been sucked out on on the river but i'm oop and decide bet/fold is a better option than check/call.

I love live poker. . .

A total drunk shows up and limps. It's heads up vs. the big blind.

Flop brings Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
bb checks, drunk raises, bb calls.

Turn is J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
BB check-raises, drunk 3-bets, bb 4-bets, drunk 5-bets, bb calls and calls blank river.

drunk rolls 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] "Now you'll never know what I have." true enough.

Utg limps, button raises, sb folds and his hand is exposed J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] bb folds, utg now thinks and turns over his cards Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] "well there go my outs"

Speaking of bad hand reading.. . .
I watched as a woman went 7 bets on the river with AA on a AK89T board vs. the only guy on the table that would chase gutshots. Everyone at the table told them to stop betting and that it was going to be a chop. I was yelling at them to stop because it's their right to go back and forth. Finally the player with QJ stopped and then looked very disapointed when he won the hand that he didn't go more bets.

I did manage to win a nice one from the same guy who limp folded Q4 when I flopped Queens full on a Q77 board heads up and we went 5 bets on the turn, he was nice enough to bet into me again on the river. He saw my hand and said "wooow" and showed me 75.

All in all, live poker makes me smile.

Live 10/20 I haven't played many hands and decide to mix it up by raising 7h6h after 2 limps. 3 or 4 players decide to take a flop. J43 no heart. 2 checks I bet 3 calls, turn 4 I bet 1 caller seated to my immediate left. River brings a K I look left to see if I should fire 1 more time but decide to give up. He checks, I almost say "you got it", I almost instamuck, but decide to table my lagginess and you guessed it MHIG.

Hey Joker,

What was the rake on this game?

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL that was another thing I forgot to talk about. Check this: 10% up to a max of... $15!!!

That's right, a pot of 9BBs, say, or $90 was raked 9 bucks. Bahahaha...

But that's nothing compared to the donkament they spread on the last day: $125 buy in, with 25% raked out -- so with 7 people buying in, it was a $700 prize pool with $175 taken out for rake. But the worst thing was the structure: you get 1,000 in chips and the blinds start at... 25/50! And the blinds go up every... 10 minutes!!!

I bought in before I found out the blind structure, and they wouldn't give me a refund. So I played. We drew for the button and I played hand 1 in the BB. After 2 hands I was down 100, so I had 900 in chips. 9 hands later the blinds were at 100/200 and I had 800 in chips. I pushed for 4BBs with A8s, got called by 33, and lost the flip. Fun!

Re: September Low-Content Thread

Joker,

You should never go all-in for a coin flip so early in the tournament. This is a real rookie mistake. Your edge in this tournament comes from outplaying your opponents so try to build your stack steadily until the final table, which should happen, by my calculations, about the time you order your first margarita.

Re: September Low-Content Thread

A pleasant, older African American gentlmen is playing 10/20 at the Borgata, drinking, talking it up, and just having a really good time away from his wife on the slots.

TAG on the button, black gent in early middle limps in. Flop is A8Jo. TAG raises, older gent calls.

Turn is a 9, Old gent checks, TAG on the button bets, older gent calls.

River is a deuce, older dude checks, button bets, older dude check raises, button calls, older dude shows down 8-2 of diamonds. TAG shows AK and has a few choice words of steam. Older dude says, "Your problem is you young guys read too many of the books. It doesn't matter what cards you start with, it only matters what the flop is." Young gun TAG angrily says "I don't read the books."

A few hands later,I get AK [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] on the button, TAG on the big blind, older black gent in middle positon. Older dude calls, I raise to 2 big bets, both call.

Flop comes A 10 8 offsuit. Checked to me and I bet, two callers. Turn is a 6, checked to me and I bet, two callers.

River is a 3.

Checked to me and I table my AK for top pair, top kicker. TAG in the big blind tables AJ and says "good hand." Older dude says "two pair" and tables 10-3. He starts spouting "damn, I thought you would figure that little old three on the river wouldn't help anybody, I was gonna check raise you. Why didn't you bet?"

I said, "I read all the books."

I saw this hand played last night in a 40/80 game by one of the regulars in the game.

Hero comes into game and raises AK in EP on his second orbit. Fishy BB calls.

Flop Q33 two clubs
BB checks, hero checks

Turn: 8
check/check

River: K
check/check

BB tables K9, hero wins with AK having maximized value.

Also saw the following 2 hands in the same orbit by a different player. This player is the hero in both these hands. Still 40/80.

Hero opens HJ and is 3bet by CO, hero calls.

Flop T65 hero c/c

Turn 5 hero c/c

River K

Hero checks, CO checks and tables 88. Hero tables TT

A few hands later:
Hero limps UTG and is isolated by MP

Flop: A63
Hero c/c

Turn: 6
Hero c/c

River: T
Checks around and hero tables 33.

NO.

Hit my first bad beat jackpot tonight, except for it being in 20 game where there is no bbj. And yes I had the losing hand.

Hero has AA
capped 3 ways pf

flop A Q 7

2 bets 3 ways

Turn Q

6 bets 2 ways

river 4

2 bets 2 ways.

I get the silver metal.

Pick up AA again 3 hands later the old old old man in the 5 seat calls 2 cold twice on the flop of KTx with AJ and hits his gutter ball on the river. Grand total of 3 outs in 2 hands (UTG says she folded QQ on the turn)

bout 7 hours later I pick up the blinds with AA.

an hour after that AA snapped of with another gutterball on the river, 74o this time.

Played with Howard Beale for a few hours and we both won a total of about 4 hands in 2-3 hours.

After all of this I end up winning 2 racks in 10 hours to put me down only $200 this month after having my best month ever in August.

Ya I know and there were a few reasons why I put in 8 bets. They may have not been good enough reasons but at the time thats what came to mind.

REASONS FOR LOSING 8 BETS:

1. I have aces full.

2. he has lost about 3 racks of chip in the last orbit.

3. If he shows me AQ after I stop raising- killing some one is an option.

4. One time I saw PQX a good high limit player almost fold in the exact situation. And I remember thinking I would never fold there unless they showed me their hand.

5. How often do you have aces full right? I mean does it really matter if I go 5-6-7-8 bets here?

5. I HAVE ACES FULL GOD DAMNIT!!!

Re: September Low-Content Thread

Well Hass and Howard, your winning ways at the 20 game will come to a screeching halt tonight. I am back! After moving all of last week, then spending the holiday weekend in Vegas totalling killing my liver, but luckily not my bankroll, I am ready to win all the red chips.

Highlights:
-Played with Roy Cooke in both my 30/60 sessions at the Bellagio. This in itself is not a highlight, but during my first session (the sober one), he folded his BB in an unraised pot preflop. I promptly laughed at him during the second session (my drunk one).

-I won at both 30/60 sessions, a rack and a half the first one, and about 400 the second one, where I came back from being down 1400 because I was limping with 74o UTG because I was drunk.

-I tried to bluff someone off a straight flush on the river in my second 30/60 game, when a fourth of the suit came out, I bet, he raised, I threebet, he flat called with the straight flush.

-I slept for a total of 5 hours between 6am Friday and 1am Monday. This included nonstop drinking the hours I was up after 10pm Friday, except for my Sat night 30/60 session for 4 hours. Sunday morning/afternoon, I WAS THE ACTION at the 30/60 game, so if anyone played with a really drunk guy, it was me!

-I won $1000 at the 1/2 NL (Imperial Palace) game Friday night/sat morning while drunk, and gave most of it back Sunday morning while drunk, before wandering over to Bellagio.

-I lost the shirt I was wearing sometime Sat morning, I also tried to go to my hotel room with almot $2000 on the 1/2 NL table. Some guy caught me at the elevator and walked me over to my chip stack. He then asked for a tip. Since I was drunk, I gave him $20.

-I had three meals in Vegas, all involved pizza.

-I was shaking Mon morning from all the alcohol and lack of sleep.

-I am sick of Vegas until Decemberish.

Here I come Casino AZ!

I'm hung over just from reading that. Glad you didn't hurt yourself.

Anyway, don't focus on me please. My 'winning ways' have come to a halt. I might never win another hand of poker. Ever.

Lost the last 5 sessions at 20/40.

Fortunately, they were all like 2-3 BB losses and I've been running crazy good at games I have no idea how to play (5-200 spread limit and 4/8 O8) so I'm actually like even.

Yesterday I played O8 for the first time ever and raised the 3rd nut low in a 6-way pot on the turn in position (everyone called) and then bet the river when everyone checked.

My 35 low was good on an A-4-7-8-T board with 3 callers. Hahahaha, ignorance is bliss. Everyone looked at me like I was mentally retarded.

Funny thing is I thought I had the 2nd nut low. Fook me, I'm used to playing Stud8 where A-3-4-5-7 is a monster! What a fish.

I get revenge tonight.

3 limps hero limps 22

flop 229 two spades.

capped flop.
capped turn
2 bets on the river.

Villan has 99.

Glad it wasn't me with 99 I would have lost....oh about 10 bets again.

And yes, I know Jake. Nice guy, good player. How do you know him?
