Where to play in AC

I've been playng in AC for a few years now and used to mainly play at the Trop, but since they are under new management the f'ing suck. So now where do I want to play?

OK lets leave out the Borgata because yes it is the nicest poker room / casino / hotel / everything. But their rooms are way to high for me even with the poker rate. I like to play somewhere where I can get a decent room rate during the week as well as on the weekends. At the Borgata you are just another face to them IMO they dont really take care of the poker players. I'm thinking my options are showboat, hilton where I already play a lot but dont like the fact that I cant get a room there on the weekends, and the TAJ but eww their chips are so nasty...lol.

The above options are places I have played, are there any other places that look out for the common peasant of a poker player when it comes to rooms.

The Taj rooms are standard. A little gaudy, but I hear they upgraded a little (true?), and their poker room rate isn't bad (I think ~75).

taj games are good, for the most part.

I would like more info about getting a poker rate at the Taj from anyone who knows a lot about it - what are playing requirements, usual rates, etc?

I know you usually have to have an average of 4 hours of play to be able to get a poker rate on a room. Just talk to a floor person during the week call ahead for a weekend room.

It's a very nice room, but their game selection is poor. If you want to play 1/2NL or very low limit, you'll be fine. The dealers aren't the best, but I haven't had any real problems.

Guess It would of prolly helped if I said what limits I was looking for. I play 2/5nl mainly. But thanks for the input so far I'm prolly leaning toward the showboat and Taj. Headed up this week so we'll see how it goes.

I live 2 1/2 hours from A.C. so I go pretty often. The casino I normally play at is Ballys/Wild Wild West. Anyone else play here?

2/5 generally means Borgata or Taj. Borgata has a majority of the active 2/5 games (selection!).

Oh and stay off my tables, I like money

not to hijack this thread, but i really miss the days of a cheap room rate, an available weekend room rate, and a packed card room like the Trop used to offer (often having 4 tables of 2/5, a coupld 5/10NL, and the Pink Chip Game!).

i used to love that room.

$65 summer weekdays, $85 summer weekends when there are rooms available. Games are good, not as soft as the Borg though.

Played ceasars, showboat and hilton this weekend, first time playing at ceasars.

Ceasars was nice played 2/5 nl for awhile till the table broke, they had two 2/5 tables running at 9am on sat which I thought was decent considering most poker roooms in AC other than the Gata usually only have 1 if any. Played 1/2 for awhile till i got another seat at the other 2/5 table. Play was decent lot of regulars that knew each other, kind of loose table played more like a 5/10.

Around 2pm left went over to the Hilton, they have a nice room I've played there a lot before and recommend playing there if you haven't had a chance.

Sunday played showboat 2/5 nl had barely one table 6-7 players kinda soft not much action. One of the guys at the table said they have a good 2/5 game on fri and sat night. Not for the faint hearted though lol. They also have one hot ass floor manager, Kellie I think she used to to deal there too. Shes good though she does a nice job running the tourneys and taking care of the players.

hey everyone. How close is showboat, taj, trop and Borgata close to each other since all these casinos are in AC?

Re: Where to play in AC

Showboat is next to the Taj (literally). Trop is about a mile (at least) down the boardwalk.

Borgata is only accessible by motor transport - jitney, car, or cab. Not a long drive, but not a walkable one.

Re: Where to play in AC

Yet another weekend in AC, rolled up fri night to play the NJ poker championship at the Hilton and stayed there as well. Didn't like the way it was set up but i'll post that elsewhere.

Stayed at the Hilton for 2 nights it was my first time staying there, its ok I guess prolly give it a 2.75 out of 5. I also played 2/5 at the Taj and it is just dirty, the chips are all brown and nasty the tables are nasty, and there is trash all under the tables. (I know theres trash under every poker table) but for some reason the Taj just feels really dirty to me.

Since i abandoned the Trop as my home i really cant come to a conclusion as to what room I enjoy better then the Trop as i have played just about every other property there in the past two trips. I guess there is no place like home, which means i'll be heading back to the Trop on my next trip up in about a week or so. But I must say the poker rooms I have liked the most are at the Harrahs properties i.e. showboat and Ceasars, so you will be seeing me there and the trop on the regular and the occasional stop at the Hilton.

Re: Where to play in AC

Do you really like staying at the Trop over the Hilton? I've always thought the Hilton was much nicer. You get a safe and fridge in your room, which you don't get at Trop. Some of the room at the Trop are pretty dumpy, depending on what tower you are in. And I've had alarms go off in the middle of the night at Trop twice.

I would stay at Borgata over both, but I can't get a poker rate there anymore. Those are the only three casinos I've stayed at.

Trop has more conveniences then the Hilton, better restaurants, better shops open 24hrs (which as a late night poker player I like a lil variety when i go get a late night snack) and you are correct it depends on which tower you stay in. I've stayed in some really nice rooms there all of them had safes but there is one tower that has not been renovated yet and it is on the dumpy side.

Just a note if you stay at the Trop request a room with a safe in it when you check in, it will usually mean you get a better room also if its available. If they say they dont have a room with a safe available make a stink about it tell them you have valuables and cash you need to store they will usually find you a room with a safe or offer you a safe deposit box at no charge.

As far as the Gata too expensive for me, thats why i dont stay there anymore. Once they did away with their "decent" poker rate that was it for me.
